I thought the same thing with some Yamaha rings I bought recently. However, I think each ring just has a groove in the face rather than being two separate thinner rings (an attempt to retain oil perhaps?). There was no sign of any "split" on the inside face of the rings I got, only on the outside.
Whatever the case, I'm watching your project thread with interest!

    Regards,
    James

Got a bit of painting done before the heat yesterday and put into the baking oven (tin garden shed). When checked at 3pm was 51c.
    Ready for stripes then clearcoat.

The fork tubes arrived today from RAD chroming in Brisbane, so on with putting the front end in and finishing the wiring. Need to sort out some cables tomorrow from the stocks.

Got the cables sorted and fitted the carb, sidecover and air cleaner.
Instead of using the old hard rubber snorkel from air cleaner to the engine case, I made a new adaptor plate from some 6mm plate and a piece of 38mm tube I found in my scrap pile. Welded to tube at the correct angle (after getting it wrong for the first time ), blasted and fitted with new screws and foam aircleaner.

Next will be covering of the seat, then making the expansion chamber.

Won't know for sure until complete, but guessing around 60 to 70Kg. Bare frame weighed 5Kg.
    Edit; 67Kg dry.

    So it's finished.
Haven't started it yet as no point in putting fuel in until I'm ready to run it. :)
