Defensive driving takes on a whole new meaning here. I've seen two dead people, been deliberately run off the road, avoided a flying mattress, and ran over a dog (without crashing) all on my mighty step-through. My greatest fear is the hit from behind.


The brakes did not fail. Thais use this excuse all the time.

OK.. so did a bit today.. played with the blasting cabinet and came to the conclusion that my little 6 CFM Direct drive compressor isnt up to the task.. but it did OK considering.. a couple of pics below.
I did pick up a 12 CFM V twin 2.2kW SIP compressor from eBay.. the seller said it was noisy.. and boy he wasnt wrong.. he also said he had checked the bearings in the motor and they were fine.. no idea what he checked them with but they are stuffed.. noisy and lumpy as well .. as you will hear in the video..




You can see that the blaster is reasonably gentle.. one pic shows how the rear caliper bracket was before and then during.. it will be better with more Air to the gun.
The last pic is the bearing from my front forks.. seems like there isnt a lot of the nice bearing material left.. Time to look for new bearings so the tubes dont get marked up..

As i said before, my 17cfm @150psi compressor just keep's up with my bead blasting cabinet.
It put's out a constant 85psi, unless i stop blasting for a bit

 

Until I bought a 17cfm twin cylinder unit I used to hook both my 9cfm and the toy 3cfm compressors together pumping into a house size old gas bottle to give a reservoir of air so that the pressure would hold longer when blasting.

 

I knew my existing one probably wouldnt do very much.. hence the purchase of the belt drive unit.. Hopefully it will do a better job.. than the direct drive one.. plus it has much more storage in the 50 litre tank than the 20 in my other unit..

 

Get some fittings so you can have them both running for more air.

 

I have thought of that.. I guess as long as both regulators are set at roughly the same pressure it wont hurt.. All I need is a Tee piece going into my hose reel..

 

Engine change for ZXR250 drag bike. Out with the C model engine and in with a recently rebuilt A model motor. Just waiting for some gaskets to finish A model engine. May need to revert to A model TCI to complete transplant.

 

Welded some 8mm alloy plates to alloy swingarm for wheelie bar mounts. Been at it for a while and put the hand piece down on the bench for a stretch/rest. Because I had been welding with high amperage to suit the thick plates (the end of the nozzle was growing red) I put the hand piece on the bench (not across my knee), not realizing there was an oily rag there. It instantly caught fire and in my panic to put the flames out dropped the hand piece on the floor breaking the still hot ceramic shroud. I grabbed the flaming rag and threw it out the door onto the concrete path and stomped out the flames. By this time I decided that I had had enough excitement for one day and shut the shed for beer o'clock.

The hand piece itself is quite a few dollars but the ceramic shields are cheap from China.
