New Member My $100 Honda.

Hi there. Thanks for inclusion in the group. I have had bikes in the past, since the early 70's. The usual story of family and commitments stopped that, and haven't been able to have a bike for a while. I was a Ridersafe Instructor in Sth Oz for a fair few years. Anyway now in Coffs Harbour and saw this CB250RS for $100 (non runner, no lights etc) trailered it home, long story short, got it going, the night picture was after a long night sorting the wiring. I now really like it. Had all these plans of a respray and all, but after cleaning all the rubbish of it I'm starting to see something nice there. The front light is the only exception, it's damaged and will be replaced with a round one. Still lots to do before rego, and I'm looking forward to enjoying riding again - at a relaxed pace! Wozza I was with Ridersafe from 2000 to 2006, I worked at Marion, Walkleys, and was coordinator at Murray Bridge for 2 or 3 years - dream job really, lots of good stories. my full name is Rob Graham Sykes, I just got the signing on procedure wrong and didn't notice.

A bit after my Dads time, he went outback to teach 4WD driving at the mines in the mid 90's I think

Bob . What a super bargain you have scored. Bike looks super nice for that price and looks like your super keen to get it going , night shift working on the loom .

 

Thanks all. Changed the engine oil today and degreased and checked the front sprocket area. All the screws were jammed, but saved with gentle use of my trusty impact driver. Also started replacing the fork seals by checking that the triple clamp bolts aren't seized. The bike gets easier to start every time, as they say " Old bikes and cars that sit, turn to sh1t." Just hope my old beetle doesn't get jealous. More pictures to come.

 

Welcome mate. Got some rear shocks and a coil from a CB250 nighthawk I can send you for the cost of a 6 pack and postage if you are interested. Just lying around in my shed

Nice find! I've mostly parted out one of mine, so let me know if you're missing anything as I might have a spare (except the headlight, only have enough for the two running ones).

 

Thanks Fred. My Honda was damaged around the headlight/instruments area and I've bought a round headlight replacement and mounting brackets. However I will pay you for a foot brake pedal adjustable stopper plate ( I think that's the description mine is missing it! ) if you have one spare. Cheers Rob.

 

Replacing the fork seals was more work than I thought, it took me back to when I had my first road bike - a brand new red CB200 - and the first thing you did on a Japanese bike when you bought it was change everything, tyres, shockies, bars, horns and fit the fits-all-bikes Omodeis fairing. You almost always buggered up every "Phillips" head screw, because you had never heard of JIS. Anyway these 59 year old fingers really got a workout. First the right leg drainhole or bottom bolt seized, an easy-out and lots of swearing were needed. The old fork seals were a bu99er to get out, and more swearing. Then I found the clip that sits atop the right hand seal was missing. The local Honda dealer looked puzzled, so I guess with old bikes you've got be resourceful and I made another from some piano wire from my old job. Good fun. Front brake next.
