I have the solution! For all those people who want to make cafe racer/bobber/rat bikes: Suzuki GS500! Heaps around, air-cooled parallel twin, nobody is really passionate about them... So go for your life!!!

Ok, it cheats a little, it uses a 550 frame. Make your own frame, who cares?

I'm bound to get some hate for this post...

Even these look better in standard factory finish than the examples you posted.

Yeah, there are improvements to be made, but at least they aren't messing with good bikes. The engine needs to sit lower (instead of partly obscured) the diamond shape of the tank has to go, the exposed spars can go, too. But when I went to look for a gs500, they weren't that cheap... I think I just sold the gixxer too cheap. :-(

They are Amal concentrics so it would not effect them with or without the silly pod filters.

I was more suggesting that there were no filters at all, and no real difference between running pods and open intake for air disturbance making them run less than smooth at speed.

I think it might go 'ok' :D

“The motor itself is mildly tuned with Megacycle cams, 10:1 compression Omega pistons, Carrillo rods lightweight crank, uprated oil pump, dry clutch, and a belt drive. For the electrics, we went with central spark plugs head and a Pazon ignition. Gearing is handled by a Quaife 5 speed gearbox and three 30mm carbs feed the cylinders. All that and a set of billet alloy 850cc barrels resulted in a dyno figure of 80bhp at the wheel.

How is there no difference between running pods and open intake?? Pods still have filtration... depending on their design and sizing but they would certainly be different to open intake. They have velocity stacks on there and I doubt that it is an "everyday" bike so the argument about filters vs open intake and dirt probably dont hold a lot of value. No point comparing production motorcycles that need to meet design rules, emission standards etc... and apart from that... the old Triumph designs run amazingly well on Pod filters or open intake with velocity stacks.. they are not as fickle as more modern bikes.

I ran open intakes on the Lucky Strike Bike for awhile. Mostly to have straight through airflow (eliminating ridges). Worked fine. Only real issue was no filter, so ended up going back to airbox.
