The name of this thread needs to be changed. All of the nice bikes removed and put in a "Rare Gems" thread. Then we can nominate and vote for a new name. I suggest "Tragic Human Beings & Their Hideous Butchery".

It might not be beautiful but I think the guys at Honda did actually do a better job...

Looks even uglier to me. And the swingarm will bend the first pothole it hits.

The only good things I can say about that one is that the Paint looks good... and I like the "Gator" skin used on the seat... as for the rest.... ruined what can be a nice bike.

Dont care much for the modded CX 400. To me they look nice in stock trim , especially the grey imported colour scheme models.
Had a CX 500 back in the day's. Was very comfortable on long rides / had a nice exhaust note and really good on fuel. Have a picture some where of my old bike.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the plastic maggot too. I nearly bought one from a seller in Tamworth. Sort of sorry I didn't now. There are a few CX-400 on the Aussie market, but from what I understand they have the weight of the 500 and half the power. CX-650 Turbo would be interesting to ride.

I also found a imported Honda CX 400 for sale in Inverell (i think) a while back. It looked to be all there , just slightly weathered but very saveable what i could see of it. But i already had my SRX 250 sitting in the shed , which i still prefer.
But the grey imported CX's do look a better than what Honda Australia supplied to us.I was never aware of the weight issue of 400's. The CX 650 had a reputation of a badly set up turbo so i was informed via a owner , power on or off as such. How i remember the story of this particular bike , the owner installed a better quality turbo and set it up really well. Super nice looking bike it was too !.

Having rebuilt both CX500 engines and CX650 engine, i can say the differences are minimal but crucial.
A fresh rebuilt CX500 is a very smooth and quiet motor, the power is adequate for daily commuting however leaves a lot to be desired in any form of power. 50ish hp is where they are at on good motors, a turbo would complement a 500 nicely.
I'd hate to see what kind of slug the 400 would be. Cool for rare factor but thats about it in my view.

A fresh rebuilt CX650 motor is great power wise, about 70ish hp and it makes the bike get up and move. Its much better in the highway / touring use. The downside with CX650 motors, even tho they use larger headbolts than the CX500 counterpart, they still have an issue of having to be re-torqued every couple of thousand km's and after the initial build its crazy the amount of times you need to check them, otherwise they will loosen and leak coolant.

Honda's Chocolate Camshaft issue is in the CX range, and it can be extremely difficult to get good cams, main 650's suffered from this.
Also the cylinders in the block would suffer from water issues if sat for too long not running, and would build up pools on the outer wall which would rust big crevasses in them making them throwaway blocks (unless you know someone who can machine the sleeves out and change them.

A lot of engine internals are scarce for these motors, as far as pistons, rings, rod bearings and crank bearings. So if you need these items you may get into trouble.

Later model 81+ CX's have electronic ignition rather than points of old, which make them a bit more reliable and set then forget. Which is handy otherwise you gotta drop the motor to do points, its not too hard and can be done in an hour without losing coolant or oil but just a pain still.

There is other issues of mechanical fans failing to cool the engines, and overheating. Most people cut the end of the camshaft so an electric fan will fit, but a suzuki across fan is sufficient to clear the cam (offset mount and just) and its good enough to keep it cool.
Mech water seal outlet is another common issue, usually blocks up with dirt or wasps and then when it fails, it blows coolant into the motor.

Whilst i adore the CX bikes cause of the cool engines, My ideal setup would be a CX500 Euro, converted to efi, then turbocharged. The CX 500 turbo oem was cool but it changed from the euro front end to something a bit more bulky, i just didn't like that change.

Didn't think K75's were that bad. This one will please the bandana wearers because it has a Hardley tank.

the bike itself isnt a bad bike, just the one above basically has had every expensive mod thrown at it in the hopes it all works together, sadly it dont.
