Thinking of making up a powered rollers to start the bikes any one done this do you have any plans your prepared to share Trev
No plans. But the most sucessfull ones that I have seen are based on battery powered angle grinders. A chain between the 2 rollers is good idea.
When I was commuting and the bike was the only form of transport, I got used to flats unfortunately, ended up carrying the puncture repair plugs There always seemed to be no shortage of woodworking screws unfortunately
Last one I made was using a cheap car 12 volt starter motor from ebay, (cut the end out to fit a sprocket) two pieces of 150mm 'C' channel for the sides, 50mm NB pipe with some weld run along it for the rollers, self aligning bearings to hold the rollers and some commercial 420 chain and sprockets to fit. The owner just used a car battery to the starter and a small foot operated pressure switch from a sewing machine to operate. I have seen some made with 240 volt 9" angle grinders to drive the chain (most are 1hp or bigger motors) but they have to use a second chain to slow the rollers down.
I bought an ex police bike a while back for parts , a mate of mine saw it and wanted to fix it up and donate it to the police museum ,’so I was tasked with getting her going , she is now a runner with a new fuel pump and we are now waiting for the lights , siren and decals to arrive before being sent to the museum bloody huge bike
Not sure where I got the info, but IIRC that was one of the selection criteria - the officer had to be able to lift the bike if they dropped it - thus they were all big guys
Sorry my eyes might be fooling me, looks like one of the inlets has been miscut, but it may be the light or lighting and they look to be quite pitted
I haven't touched the intake seats yet, cylinders 1 & 2 exhaust seats were , as per usual, pitted, the surprise was how the #3 exhaust seats are sitting, as if they are cocked to one side , I have no excuse NOT to make 30 degree & 70 degree cutters now, to try and save this head. I'll have to look around for another MC19 head I recon Tiny
If the valves are not straight in the seats, and have worn that way, you should probably inspect the valve guides, my bet is that they are worn out.
Officer: about this scooter that is half hanging out of your car. Driver: I thought I heard a thud at the red lights...
Thanks mate I'm happy with the result (especially with the old rattle can) Hey where in staffs are you? I live in Australia now but originally from Lichfield
Another rattle bomb special , good range available from https://vgautopaints.com.au/collections/spray-cans
Stoke on Trent not so far from Lichfield got some stuff fro E bay today a set of conical rollers sprockets and chains as well as a 1400rpm 1.5 kw motor the first stage of a rolling roller bike starter i have yet to draw a design and get the metal work created As i have said in the past I am getting to old to kick up some reluctant bikes All ideas and suggestions welcome Trev
Yesterday I did forks seals on the ZX-6R (what a painful job) and fixed the rear wheel. Today I fixed the forks (did I mention it was painful?). Then I rode it home, probably the longest ride, yet. And no issues! Well, it was dark.
