Naphthalene is in mothballs. Not sure what benefit it has, maybe octane increaser - it's a double benzene ring.
My Father used to put moth balls (naphthalene) with lighting kerosene in his old side valve Royal Enfield during the war years petrol rationing to make his monthly petrol ration go further. He got pretty good at cleaning sooty spark plugs too.
Have the charging problem sorted after stripping back the harness and cutting out a dodgy joint and soldering another that looked suss, then fitted a borrowed rectifier (thanks Grey) and we now have battery charge. Will look into the boiling problem tomorrow.
The FZR dropped a rod (No 1) at the drags in March 2018 when Risky was giving it lots. With the old engine out I found this. Another complete 2nd hand engine will be fitted for next drag races.
Will be running even better after I clean out the water in the tank from where the bike has been left out in the weather for the last two years.
That would be nice. Used engine so wont need too, but will still be gentle until it gets back to Newie.
I'm interested to see the internals on the blown engine if you ever get around to disassembling it to do an autopsy
Hi sorry to see your engine let go! May I ask, a couple years ago did you ever figure out the boiling coolant issue? Cheers
