Purchased one of these .... http://www.jeken.net/ps-20a.htm Method : Tap water , squirt of dishwashing liquid , 30 minutes , 35-40 deg c After : Rinse under hot water , any residue left comes off easily with a light brush. The floats came out sparkling .... something that would be very difficult to clean "by hand" . Floats and bowls were done in Armour-all car wash. The important part though is the internal passages being cleaned out.
yea, initial results are impressive ........ carb cleaning and beer drinking sounds like a good combination to me
Heres the 3LN3 carb after threebond and ultrasonic ..... pretty slick ... pity its just going to sit on the shelf.
They look great, one question what is threebond? BTW from cleaning pistons, I've found that some cream of tartar helps to restore the bright shine also peace out Glenn
Heres the threebond story ..... http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/threebond-the-ultimate-cleaner.1229/ I better put cream of tartar on the shopping list
You missed the excitement in my other thread? That carb I attempted to use is from the 'spares' .... when I attempted to slot it in , I found the jet housing was different than the 'runners' ....... Its from a 3LN3 set while the carbs Im overhauling are 3LN1 ..... and of course Blairs kit I have is for a 3LN1 http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/my-fizzer.872/page-8#post-12250
Sorry mate, I did read and saw the photo's of the 2 carbs, how sad is that! best looking carb and can't use it?
Yea that was the worst part! .... in the flesh it looks 'brand new' ..... I think they have seen alot less use than the set from the runner bike. And the thing is theres no advantage to using the set of 3LN3 carbs as #4 has a broken air pipe also .... and of course I would need another carb kit to suit! I will eventually do them up when I have nothing else to do .... ha!
Wow Grey they look amazing! We have a ultrasonic cleaner here at work but alas, people before me used it till it broke and now nobodys allowed to have any fun with it. I was browsing through e-bay just looking at a few, how would you be able to judge the time needed in? and if you overexpose does it damage parts? some general tips would be great! Cheers.
Cleaning is supposed to happen in the first couple of mintes and long times arnt neccessary. The other thing to avoid is 'overloading' it ..... it doesnt cost anything more to run it 5 times with 5 things than cram them all in together. From what Ive read u have to really clean something to the extreme over a long time to cause any damage. An important thing is to never put anything sitting inside directly on the metal .... things need to be in a basket type of setup. Theres alot of stuff online about using one but this is ok .... http://www.metalfinishing.com/view/4195/making-the-most-of-your-ultrasonic-cleaning-system/ The one I have is something like $300+ new .... I was lucky to pick it up second hand on ebay .... and of course the beauty of it is, it fits a carby in it Apart from something like a carby coming up sparkling , its the important tiny passageways inside that u cant see and are hard to get at, are cleaned as well.
Yeah sweet, I was most worried about plastic parts being broken down or o rings I most propably will leave in by accident but I guess itll be trial and error, I got a 1967 BMW R69s from my old man to fix up for him and an ultrasonic cleaner will do wonders for most of the parts coming off it, not to mention getting the ZXR carbies looking nice and shiny! Im really looking forward to getting my carbies like yours!
