Hi The Tacho on my Purple Zeal is not working, I have checked all the connections and am getting a varying voltage signal at the Tacho. 1. does anyone know what the actual signal at the Tacho in proportion to RPM should be? 2. any resistance type checks one could do on the Tacho to see if it is OK. My other Zeal should turn up next week so I could always swap Tachos to see if it is the Tacho is at fault. Thanks in advance.
looks to be a black/yellow wire from TCI to tach ... did u check at the TCI plug ? https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?resources/yamaha-fzx250-zeal-wiring-diagram-english.223/
Yeah the wiring appears ok, getting a variable voltage signal at the meter itself from about 2V to 10V measured on AC with a digital multimeter. while revving the engine, this is why I'm chasing what resistance the coil of the Tachometer should be. the black yellow wire from memory becomes a grey wire at the Tacho from memory. Ground and 12V wires are also OK.
You wont get a proportional signal using a digital multimeter, you will only get an indication that the volts vary... The correct way to test it is connecting the earth lead from the multimeter to the chassis and then connect the positive to the tacho feed.. if you have picked the correct one then you should have stable voltage of 2 to 3 at idle and it will rise as the revs rise.. but it isnt proportional... The signal is really a pulsed DC current but a normal Digital multimeter wont capture the signal. Maybe wait for your other Zeal to arrive to check it.
Took the Tacho off the other bike, worked fine. Bike 1 100% ready RWC tomorrow. Now to do up bike number 2.
