Hello, looking to remove the speedo gear on the front hub in order to replace the oil seal behind it. Looks like it may be pressed on. In any case, have tried a few methods, but don't want to force things and cause too much damage. It has 2 punch mark on the top that tell me it may be threaded, but I drilled those a bit and tried to twist with no luck.

Any ideas on how to get it off?

    Thanks in advance. fbe7a948ca5e904601dae8a66cf0e954.jpg 974d79aa8b72f9fe7a04951f94ed3a6f.jpg

Unfortunately I have no clue on that front - those two punch marks could be to lock the thread, though they're more likely to be to stop it spinning if it's been pressed on.

Difficult to know either way, though I would have thought that cutting threads would have been an expensive manufacturing technique.

If you have a heat gun, try heating the gear on it's outer circumference to see if that helps loosening it

It was a press fit. Tried to heat it up, but the oil seal started to burn up and fill up the garage with nasty smoke.

Wound up getting a small 3 jaw gear puller under the gear. Had to drill out the punch marks more as well.

    Thanks for the help
