Most of them have a screw retaining them. If it's not visible, it's likely that it's been caked in 30 years of dirt, grease, twigs and other stuff. Especially if it's been crashed.

No screw according to the schematic from Megazip I posted on page 1... on my SRX it is held on with a screw and they show it as a part... so I would expect the FZR to either be a push on to tight splines or screwed on.
Only one way to find out is to try and pull it oof first.....

Stupid question... have you tried to pull it out? The knob I mean.
I had to change my wording on that sentence from what I had originally put

I had mine off recently, from memory there is enough room with some wiggling to grip the shaft the knob is attached to with some needle nose pliars. The knob just unscrews from the shaft. Think it loosens in the direction opposite to whichever way you tuen it to reset the trip counter.

I trimmed mine with a cutoff wheel in a Dremel and small grinding burr to neaten it up

Well that should fix your problem. You might find it pulls an extra 5km/h now at speeds you will never really need. Unless of course it is a race bike, then every little bit counts.

Unlike my esteemed cohorts on the forum, I take a different view. If you are out in the middle of nowhere, which is most of the Australian continent, ride over the section that you want to 'speed' on first to check for cops, driveways, and all matter of dangerous things. Then turn around and knock yourself out. Despite what everyone thinks, your life is not really owned by the state. It won't be too long before all vehicles in Aus will be fitted with GPS units that report your speed at all times, and not long after that motorcycles will be banned completely. This is a forum for dinosaurs and extinction beckons. :)

Oops my bad, you are in Ireland. Home of the North West 200. If someone in Aus proposed a race like that they would be jailed for the rest of their natural days and all traces of their previous existence erased. Do whatever the Irish do.

What happens if you fit the MPH converter on the wheel hub the speedo reads in MPH so unless you hit 190mph the cut out circuit should not work ? Am I correct
