Just out of interest I am trying to find out when Honda started putting VIN tags onto bikes? I just got my CB250G5 / K5 home and while it has the VIN stamped into the Headstock there is no VIN tag. Now this bike should be around 1973 / 74 according to the details I can find out from stuff like the gauge cluster, engine etc.. It would be nice to find out the "year" of it as well as what it actually is.. I will get around to calling the RTA (sorry Service NSW) to see if they have details on record on it.. hopefully it isnt stolen etc...lol So.. if anyone has opinions on when VIN tags began to show up on Hondas it would be good to find out.. PS My CB400 is a 1975 build and it has a VIN tag...
That is the logical conclusion I am coming to. After posting this up I did more searching of Honda 1970's bikes for sale and those in 1975 all seem to have a VIN Tag.. Now the trick is to identify my bike...lol I am pretty sure it isnt a G5 as all the G5's I have seen in my searching have the idiot lights in the tacho and the High beam light in the headlight.. mine has the pilot light binnacle in the middle.. and it appears that was only fitted to K5 and CB360.. Not that it makes a huge difference as engines are the same.. tanks are the same as well as seat etc..
I'm with Murdo. I don't think it would be Honda only would it? My Ducati 75 SS had one but my friend's 74 Sport did not, as I recall.
