Hey guys, last night when i got home from work i had a tiny bit of oil leaking from my oil delivery pipe. Ive gone to tighten it up but obviously went to far and threaded the hole it goes in. This is the bottom of the pipe btw. Anyway ive taken the bolt out and sure enouggh there is half the threading surrounding the bolt. Now what are my options or is it as i think it is, FUBAR, and needing a new sump/bottom end. This bike has given me nothing but trouble. Not happy jan.
Cheers guys, any help is appreciated.

"If you've really buggered up the case threads, as will sometimes happen, you can put in new threads called Helicoils. They are, however, somewhat expensive."
From http://www.dansmc.com/stripbolt.htm

I'm not sure how easy they are to use, or how well it'll work on your case… but it's not like you can make it much worse

what about simply rethreading it to a larger size? as far as i know you just need a simple tool and it cuts a new thread for you

also wondering if i do increase the thread size, would it be easy enough to find an oil delivery bolt in the next size up?
Ive also done a little research into the helicoils, looks like u can get the kit for as little as $60, does anyone have an history with these? How well do they work and where can i buy them from?
Cheers

Are you talking about the oil line that comes off the top of the crankcase and leads up to the top of the engine?

If so, you are only going to be able to Heli-coil it, as the bolt goes through the pipe. You can enlarge the hole that the threads that are busted, but you cannot enlarge the hole in the oil pipe. Hence you can only heli-coil it

Most quality automotive parts houses should be able to help you out.

While you are there, pick up a torque wrench.

Hey, just another thought, ive got another problem with the helicoils, when u install them u need to break of the tang at the end, unfortunately this will be on the inside of the crankcase. its a small bit of wire about 5mm long.
Can i get it out without taking the engine apart? or is there possibly another way i can ensure it comes out?

Hey guys, just a quick update. Installed helicoils, albeit not perfectly, as it is on a very slight angle. Anyway after a bit of extra tightening its sealed perfectly. For future reference i used the the recoil thread repair kit. Keeping shavings out was easy with the grease. Good stuff! Thanks for your help ppl.
