I'm struggling to find any actual service manuals for this machine (250S, water cooled, carby) of my son's. All the links to what SEEM to be service manuals just end up at email harvesting sites. Even the much vaunted Spanish language manual no longer seems to exist online. I have the ones from the resources section but they just don't cover much of anything beyond "yep, that's a carby".
I'd be really grateful if someone could provide a copy, in ANY language, of the setup specs for the carby.

    Yes, I've read that.
Going off my son's description it's running rich and fouling the plug. He took it to a mechanic where he is (four hours drive from me) and after charging him over $300 they told him it would cost another thousand to rebuild the carby. My son only paid $1200 for the bike and as pretty as it is, it's more likely to get tossed into a bonfire than pay another grand, but we'd rather it was going well enough to get him to work.
I'm headed down there again next week to look at it, clean the carby, set the valves, and hope I can get this sorry excuse for a waste of money going for him.

'another thousand to rebuild the carby' That says it all.

    Yeah.
I may have uttered a profane exclamation when my son told me that part.
I got a price for a whole new carby from the lone Australian parts guy. It was about $350. Still a lot given the value of the bike but a hell of a lot better than $1000 for a rebuild.

Is it worth pulling the carb down and giving it a once over with some carby cleaner ? Or pull the carby off and drop into an import dirt bike shop and try and match one, they are zongshen engines so it shouldn’t be too hard to match one up

megelli’s do have an issue where the intake valve can be tight from the factory making them hard to start.

Who is your parts guy ? Is his name shihn?

To the best of my knowledge there's precisely one guy in Australia, he runs the Facebook page, and that's him.

I'm going to clean out the carby and I just got myself some angled feeler gauges to set the clearances. It would just be really handy to have information like the standard float height, any clip positions etc before I start pulling things apart.

Also, last time I was down there we went for a ride, me following on my RT. That Megelli is LOUD, I mean splitting headache inducing after twenty minutes, got the attention of the police at a RBT stop we passed type loud. Surely this isn't normal.

loud is normal for megelli,s.[ i have 2 in shed and both were loud.]

open inlets to 4 thou and exhaust to 6 thou.factory setting was supposed to be 2 thou but invariably were tight. bikes might start cold but when hot you sat and waited.

I thought it was posted in another thread they should be 6 and 8 thou, or does this being a water cooled model make a difference?

Ok, if that's what it is, then that's what it is. I might see if I can make it quieter when I get the chance to play with it for a while.

have tried both valve settings and honestly noted no difference. valves are set tooooo tight at the factory.with the rich mixture could the choke be stuck on?

Entirely possible but on't know till I get my hands on it. That's one of the things I'll be looking for along with blocked air passages etc in the carb and a choked air filter.

A lot of the chinese 250cc Pitbike's here come with a similar carby.
A common swap for them is the OKO 30mm flatslide carby, a Taiwan copy of the Keihin PWK30, it require's an intake manifold swap to suit the horizontal carby but they are only around $15 for a new one
You'll need the longer throttle cable for the OKO PWK carb as well
They're really easy to tune, and offer a lot better performance (use a little extra fuel) and jet kit's are cheap (around $15 for 10 jet's)
Make sure it is made in Taiwan and has the hex main jet not the round one's. And you probably don't need the one with the powerjet either

Everything I've found in what manuals I can get tell me it's a TK MV34 carby, but until I get my hands on it I won't know for sure.

Ok, I'll take filter cleaner and oil with me to cover that job as well.
Right now consistently running at all is better than what he's got. I'm leaning towards the valves at the moment, but won't know until she comes apart and gives up her secrets.
    I'm being "romantic".
If I typed the language that bike has invoked I'd be banned.

The bike in general? It's not winning any points with me so far I can assure you.

If I was well off I'd just buy him a MT03 and be done with it, but I have skills instead of cash.

they are not a loved or wanted bike.

if it has the original tyres on they are not good in the wet.
