This poor beaten up 1982 Gn250 came into my possession today. Don't know what the effing hell I am going to do with it, but I couldn't let it go to the tip. Am open for suggestions as to what can be done (and no, continue to the tip is not one) to give it another life. This is all I have of it, so not enough to make it a viable restoration. What are your thoughts?
Murdo, with your talent in fabrication and all things mechanical, feel certain there is something in the back of your mind????? Grey could be onto something, photo looks great. Not certain but seem to recall Chris might even have some parts for one.......don't quote me, I could wrong.
Well the only thing I can think of looking at it today was another 'cafe' job. The long forks may make this idea a bit unreasonable unless I push the fork tubes through the clamps and put the clip on bars on top. Am surprised by the lack of responses re eating hats, etc.
Been thinking that a 'tracker' might be the go with this one. Some long shocks on the back to lift it up a bit to match the front, some 'chunky' tyres, plastic guards and smaller seat, maybe an enduro type headlight with small fairing, trail bike bars and high pipes. Hmmm.
Nice find. I just picked one up a couple of weeks ago. Not looking to go all out on it, but I have bought some parts to make some minor changes. Look forward to seeing what you do with this little bike. Have you ever ridden one?
Not yet. This one has swallowed something and will not let the piston go all the way up the bore. I hope its not a valve head! End of spark plug was smashed. Will pull the head off when I get time and have a look.
Took the head off and found where the exhaust valve head went. Would be fixable with a new valve and some machining, but have decided to use the running gear on another frame.
just hit up google images and find something appealing to your eye https://www.google.com.au/search?q=...VGObwKHRyvC5UQsAQIJg&biw=1920&bih=987#imgrc=_ not this
The GN has come to the end of it's life. The running gear will be used to get another bike on the road, I have cut bits from the bent frame to weld onto another resto, the head has gone to help a group member get another GN back running and this is what is left. Free to anybody who wants it. Come and get it or pay for postage and I will send to you.
A cafe racer for sure, & yes shorten up the forks through the triple clamps to give it that mean lean racing look. There are heaps of cheap after market parts available for these very popular Chinese made GN250 engines.
