Ah ok. I had a mate who ran a '91 Bros 400 with the same issue. Few flat spots through the rev range and ultimately at the top end. Turned out to be a carby thing, we were able to improve it significantly by giving the carbies a good clear out but it was still there at the top end. There's a video I posted somewhere here in response to another thread about diagnosing how your carby responds at different throttle levels. Maybe that will help you as well.

Oh and scottay heres another possibility
    http://m.youtube.com/results?q=how to tune drag pipes&sm=3
I went for a ride today after playing with the mixtures. She went well but then after a while things were playing up again. So I tried sticking a clamp in the exhaust (all I had with me) and there was a massive difference, not perfect but alot closer8

Made no difference :( I really think its the mixture screw settings. But everywhere wants to charge me a stupid amount of cashola to run it on the dyno and tune it.

Have you tried slowly getting to the problem area In the rev range? Or is it a normal acceleration then shitsitself?

I tried today and if i hold like 1/4 throttle all the way up it will rev past those problems without any worries.

So i bit the bullet today and decided id just yolo my way into the carbies and hope for the best lol.
I have moved all the needles to position 2 (one spot leaner from factory). I noticed that one of the cylinder things that the needle sits in is able to spin around the throttle slide where as the rest dont move, Is that normal?

I took the bike for a ride and it was a bit weird for the first minute or two and then it came good. Has a little more poke but still has the high rpm miss.

Hey mate, I'm having something similar to my Across. I took it to 2 mechanics and both said that was the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay but I tested both and they worked fine. So I'm thinking it's a carby problem.
I gonna keeping watching here to collect any information. So strange to all Across suddenly go with similar problems.

    Hi scottay
I shall do my best to explain carbs for you, so here goes.
Imagine your throttle split up into thirds from idle to wide open throttle (wot).
The first third works off your Pilot jet.
The second third works off your Jet needle.
The last third works off your Main jet.
You mentioned you had your carbs balanced do you know if they also set up your float heights, i ask because you mentioned it ran different up hill compared to down hill, if your float heights are different across the carbs or if there sticking this will affect fueling. Also did they check your Main jet sizes were correct? Your could also check to see if any of your slides are sticking, again this can affect running. Your mixture screw generally only affects idle. Also check for any damage inside the Venturi and that the Emulsifiers aren't damaged which can affect the Low pressure area which helps draw the fuel up through the Emulsifier tube. Hope this helps you abit more.

Thanks :) That made it a bit more simple. All they literally did was balance the carbs and that was it. One thing ive noticed since the new slides were fitted and they balanced them the bike is running super rich at idle. Sometimes there is fuel coming out of the carby overflow tube. I tried setting the needles to one spot leaner but the bike would run like **** for the first 5 minutes of riding and not want to rev properly so i changed them back the factory position.

Still sounds like the floats or needle to me. If you take them out again also check that the seat is tight in there, the oring that jessica mentioned earlier was the reason for mine leaking. Ive still been having issues when holding the revs from 5-9k rpm. I did open the top to see that one of the needles were set at 4 and the other set at 2. Ill test it later.
I can understand your frustration with this, it makes the ride **** and sort of puts you off riding. But you will get there with the help of the knowledgeable members on here.

The oring on the left is the one I replaced. This part is at the bottom end of the carb. Take the pin out that holds the float, carefully lift the float (the needle should be hanging off it). Where the needle came out is the seat(left side of pic). Its held in by a screw with a washer looking thing attached to the head of the screw(im sure there is a propper name for it lol). Loosen the screw and see if the seat can wiggle much in its little hole. Dont be too rough with it. I took the seat out and I suspect thats what damaged the oring on mine.
Before you even go there just check the float height, follow the manuals direction for this.
if anyone sees anything wrong with what ive said here please correct me

I came across this site recently because I want to learn a bit more about carbies.

    http://www.dansmc.com/carbs2.htm

I'm actually thinking about buying a second hand Keihin carby to have a play with but they are pretty exxy even used.

Lol I never been inside a carbie until a couple of months ago. The bottom end isnt that scary. I watched a couple of youtube videos of carbie cleaning before I delved in.
