So i have no idea about bikes or carbies. Been a car person all my life and only ever dealt with EFI.
Carbies scare me too much to touch them lol.

I can start my Across with no choke on cold days no worries at all, thus making me assume its running rich. Also fuel economy isnt that great.

Ive read that you can move some needle down 1 notch to lean out the mixture a bit. Anyone have a guide or something that is going to make it retard proof so i dont break my bike ? :p

    Thanks

    Hi Scottay,

    How did you get on.

Sorry I missed your post, I only have a watch on the Suzuki inline 4 forum.

The Across can be painful to get the mixture right, and carbies balanced. I find 30 mins on a bike shop dyno does the trick for me - especially when it feels that they are hunting.

    Cheers

Ive had a few other issues to tackle since i got the bike.
Ive ordered 4 new sliders and a friend is going to come take a look at them to see if they need replacing and to also adjust the needle position. I really do want to get the carbies balanced and mixture set but I really dont want to pay an arm and a leg for it! lol

The job you are looking at is not expensive, what brings the cost up is time taken= Labour $$$$

Here is my take, remove all fairings so as to make access to carbs easy. You have just saved a bucket load of money, why because your mechanic can get straight to work balancing the carbs and adjusting the mixtures. This should take no more than 30 minutes and that is being generous!

Think about it, the more you do = less mechanic cost. Actually some mechanics find it refreshing not to have dismantle so as to tune your bike. Hope this helps, do get an estimate from your mechanic, you might be surprised!!!!!

So a little update. Today I did a trip meter test. From a completely full tank i had to switch to reserve at 120kms.... I have just replaced the air filter as it was sooooo dirty. It really needs a tune but im so poor atm so it will have to wait.

    Oh no hmmm

So red light came on at 120kms?

My orange light (half tankish) comes on around the 100-120 mark depending on what type of riding i am doing (city or country)

Hopefuly one of the more informed guys on here can suggest something.

For some reason i dont even get an orange light... i assume its not plugged in or the sensor is broken. The light itself works as it comes on with the ignition. I got some of the new carbie slide needle plastic things but have no idea how to install them so im just waiting for a friend to help me. Apart from that the slip on exhaust i got sounds awesome :D

When you filled back up how many liters did the tank need?

Just an update - Bike has had new plugs - New air filter - New throttle slides - Carbies had been balanced but it still breaks down in high rpm. One thing i have noticed is if im riding down hill the bike will rev to about 14k rpm before it breaks down. But if im going up a hill it will only get to about 10-11k rpm.

What could the problem be that would change with the angle the bikes on ?

    THanks

I don't think the angle is affecting it, it is more likely the engine loading. It will be under much more load going uphill.

By the way, I'm an Electrician and a Diesel Mechanic by trade, so this whole carby thing is a bit of a novelty for me :p Take any of my carby advice with a grain of salt! Ha ha.

it will hit a certain rpm and just make like a burrrr noise and wont rev past it.
