    Hey guys,

    Bit of a new rider and picked up an 85' CBX250 for $500 no rego but registered in the past. Bike honestly requires a lot of work but mostly intact, bought for the challenge. The issue I now face is the choice between restoring to factory and selling as a rare (although ****) bike, or chopping it into the custom I have imagined. Then proceeding to buy a bike with a bit more street potential.

    All opinions welcome. Cheers guys

    Your choice at the end of the day.
    I restored a little VT250 and wrecked an MC19 (extremely poor condition) for parts to use in a special build.
    Its all about what makes you feel good.
    But whatever you do, do it properly.

    Yes the VIN is clean, although the internals of the engine is unknown atm. Not too bummed about that tho since this bike is basically wrench education.

    Personally , i wouldn't chop that up , it's nearly all there.
    I'd like to see the other picture's when you have time.
    Part's are out there for them , if you choose to return it back to factory that is , the bonus will be it will be worth more insurance wise if kept in stock trim.
    I think i have a road test on that model if your interested.
    When i was after a 250cc , in was a toss up between the SRX 250 or the CBX 250 , as both are air cooled bike's. I found the SRX in the end , but no CBX's where around that i could find , hence commenting on putting back to stock.
    But , it's your bike though

    1937 Royal Enfield 250, CF Moto 250 V5, Honda's XL250, CBR250, FT500 plus a few others.
    It will be worth more as a stocker. Some of these chop/brat/fuggers that owners ask silly money for are usually worth about 1/5th of a stock bike, and are very hard to sell.
    To me, a well restored stock bike is so much more a vehicle to be proud of and a pleasure to ride than a hacked up POC.

    personally id keep it stock if it doesnt cost you to much , better for future resale value as they are rare in oz , i have one myself DSCF0921.JPG

    I looked for ages for either the SRX and the CBX , but not much was around at the time.
    But was happy what i found in the end.

    yep have had it about 4-5 yrs but still havnt done anything with it (to many projects) was a runner according to po but wouldnt start the day went to look at it .. think needs new ignitor but havnt really checked .. cost me 400 .. lol.. picked it up and went to the cairns swap meet with it on back of the ute ... got a couple of offers including 1 for a grand but wasnt there to sell it, just chasing other parts .. one of these days will have to get it going .. easy fix hopefully .. opps forgot the photo

    Yeah I think I will keep it stock, only issues with parts are the orignal front and belly fairings. I just keep my eye out I guess. Unofrtunately I had to cut a rather stubborn bolt to the air box off and accidently ground away a minor section of the chasis attachment point. Hopefully this doesn't ruin the quality of bike for an eventual buyer.

    No problem happy to help.
    For that price you'd have all the parts you need , and if you keep the bike having that many spares is always a bonus.
    Get onto the bike though , as I don't think it will last.
    No offence , It does help to know where you live , especially when your looking for parts.

    Umm looking at that Belly Pan add on Gumtree... that place is in WA. But I must admit it is a good price at $50. Mostly when they come up for sale they are over $100 plus postage... They are a popular fit onto VTR250's as well.
