So... after having my full license for 22 years I moved to Melbourne for work and in changed to a Vic license... fast forward 10 years and I moved back to NSW and when I changed my License back I stupidly didn't renew my bike license as they were 2 seperate licences...
Anyway.. now has come the time to look at sorting out my license again..Does anyone know if I have to re-sit all the tests etc?

Not sure about that one, if you did have to sit the tests though, once the Ps test is done I dont think your restricted to a lams bike if over 35 yrs old and no disqualifications recently.

I loathe the RMS (previously RTA) however common sense would dictate that your previous qualification should merely be re-instated, so having said that they may make you re-sit tests.

I'd be prepared to ask to speak with a branch manager if they go that route because I only have one licence which has "C, R" on it.

Perhaps present it as a bureaucratic oversight during the interstate transfer.

New licencing testing and qualification processes shouldn't be retrospectively applied if you've previously held a full riders licence.

In Queensland, we have one licences with our classes displayed. I would check your licence and see what written on there, perhaps your motorcycle licence is already listed

It will be interesting... I have to go in there next week to change Personalised Plates on the Scirocco now it is sold so I will check up while there... Knowing the RMS it won't be easy...lol

I doubt any previous licence will mean anything ..... u cant transfer interstate rego here , u have to start from scratch

Be prepared to waste a couple of weekends riding around cones in a carpark

You get Ls for a year then if they lapse u have to do it all again .... but after 3 months u can go for red Ps but u need to book well in advance ..... being an old fart u only have to have red Ps for 1 year then its full licence

You use your own bike for the P test ..... I had to spend a small fortune to hire one of their bikes as things like FZRs dont go round cones .... funny that

    NSW has that too

My previous bike license was a NSW license... they transfer with no drama State to state... rego is a bit different.
when I came back to Sydney I even got my old License number back.. as I said.. it will be interesting to see what happens.

Does your current NSW licence have C or C, R under licence class?

At present only C as when I changed back they asked if I wanted to pay the extra for my bike license and at the time declined. Money was tight

It's strange that there are different rule's in different state's.
In SA once you have your L's (2x 1/2 day training session's,restriced to a Lams bike and a 100km/h speed limit ) and are over 25yo and hold a full licence for a car etc, you can go for your R-Date after 6 month's (rule's just changed in october, was previously 1 week)
After passing the Ridersafe Advanced course you get issued with the R-Date added to your SA license and do not need to display P plate's and are not subject to provisional licence conditions and rules.

Then after 1 year you can apply for a full R licence

And there in lies the biggest problem with the Aus road rules, each state is different.
Hands up those who want the same across all states.

No thank's, i think i can speak for most of us here, we don't want the yearly RWC 's in SA !!!!

My L permit is a printed piece of A4 paper, i have to keep it on me at all time's like my car license, but how long is a piece of paper going to last in your wallet ?
Motor Reg said you can laminate them if you want, but how do you keep it in your wallet then, lol
    The other thing i don't understand is the difference in speed restriction's for L and P plater's, it's 100 km/h in SA, and 90 km/h in NSW ??

Haha... back in the day your License was always a piece of paper... no photo and the numbers etc were all done on a typewriter...
Very easy to forge a Drivers License back then... for proof of age (pubs etc) ... not that I would know anything about that at all....

Yeah i remember the old paper licence's now, i got my license 32 year's ago
And with the modern day plastic card's, most of my bank card's etc the numbers and the scan bar on the back rub off a year or more before a replacement is due to arrive

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with @my67xr
While I wish we had uniform laws and regulations across the country you can bet the buggers who implement these things will choose the worst aspects of every state so that all of us end up in a worse position.
I remember, way back in the dark ages, how excited I was when I discovered QLD had no P-plate requirement at all!
And, not long after that, a mate of mine who was riding an RGV250 N moved to Canberra where, at the time, they had no restricted-capacity rules so he immediately bought a 900 :)

Yep, I'd say you'll be doing your L's and all that rigmarole....

I must be an old fart, I remember those paper licences...

I was in a similar boat a few years ago in SA.
Had to redo my bike license due to red tape, despite having obtained it 25 years beforehand.
Did L's and then P's 2 weeks later...plus 1 year LAMS (Luckily I had my restricted Ducati 900ss).
There was a way around LAMS if you changed licenses between (some) states, but I think the loophole is closed now....
