I received this message from graham in South Africa but decided to put up my answer here as it may help others in the future. I didnt rebuild my motor but you tend to find the best sources for any parts, especially hard to get things in general.

graham: hey grey, im doing a rebuild but having trouble finding parts in south africa, can you tell me where you got your parts for your rebuild please? the parts im mainly looking for is engine parts like pistons,rings,gaskets,bearings(big-end and mains) please if you can help out would appreciate it alot.

As a grey import there seems to be plenty of FZR250s in Australia and the UK.
Very few seem to have made it to the USA ..... plenty of 400s,600s,750s and 1000s, which can be handy for 'common' parts.

When searching eBay use http://www.ebay.com/ or http://www.ebay.co.uk/ or http://www.ebay.com.au

The FZX250 Zeal has the same motor (detuned)

Try and cross reference any hard to get parts with other Yamaha machinery .... ATVs , jet skis , snowmobiles etc.

The FZR 400 is similar in alot of areas so using info from the manuals can be handy.

As the 250 was only officially released in Japan there is no English manual ....

As far as I know the Zeal engine is identical to the 3LN ...... the 2KR Im not 100% sure about .... internals I think are the same , mounting points to the frame are different.

    Base gasket 3LN-11351-00

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-FZ...d=100040&prg=7839&rk=2&rkt=4&sd=221180256672&

    Head Gasket 3LN-11181-00

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-FZR2...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item2eba046ea9

    Oil pan/sump gasket 3YX-13414-00

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/YAMAHA-F...orcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d05b737e9

The 3YX is for the 3LN 6 & 7 but as much as the sumps differ from the 3LN1 to the later models (spin on filter) the gasket looks to be the same.

Connecting rod bearing ......Chinese ?

thanks grey, i worked out the combustion chamber volume and swept volume of the zeal and 2kr, they are identical in numbers, the bore and stroke length on both are 48 by 34.5mm. piston sizes and ring gaps are identical too with tolerences, in my experience of overhauling car engines,if the sum of your swept and combustion volume equels your compression ratio they must be the same. but however this is a motorcycle and i see that the engineering in these engines are very different and more precise. if someone has more info i would appreciate it, dont want to start the build and buy parts then it does not work, i will put up loads of pics in my rebuild thread.

I thought I'd add this info to this thread in case someone is searching for the particular parts mentioned

Interestingly doing a quick google search by part number for the carb boots turned up this site

    http://www.firstclassmotorcycles.com.au/partFinder/fiche/yamaha/1998/fzx25-zeal/intake

In their parts lists they have NLA (no longer available) beside the item description for some parts, but there are a lot of parts which at first glance look to be available

They also have the cylinder base gasket listed with a price - item 4
    http://www.firstclassmotorcycles.com.au/partFinder/fiche/yamaha/1998/fzx25-zeal/cylinder#ficheZone

and sump gaskets - item 2

Go with the Chinese ones, they work fine if fitted properly.

I got some Aliexpress ones recently, I think I went with CBR250 MC22 ones because @Mike Green ended up with some for 4mm valve stems (2KR) when ordering what were supposed to be 3LN (3.5mm stems)

Aliexpress if fine, HOWEVER they get their product descriptions mangled at times - it pays to check measurements in the listings as sometimes they throw models together with different actual specifications - e.g. piston rings is another; 2KR oil ring pack is 2mm thick, whereas 3LN is 1.5mm - if they list both models, avoid because there are differences!
