Looks like this was an error at the manufacturer. All 3 labels on the package say 43t.

Aaaand this gets better! 16/43 is stock from Honda and leaves you 10mm of adjustment (5mm before in the red zone) 17/44 will pull the adjusters in closer and "fixes" the speedo to be closer to actual at highway speeds. Dug through my bucket of used sprockets/chains and found 3 17/44 setups, and 1 16/43.

A slightly delayed post but I finally got around to fitting up the ST2 Self cancelling blinkers onto the CB400SF... They work really well but were a PITA to fit... I ended up making an adapter loom because the spice point on the Honda is only 100mm from the indicator switch block...that is where they spice off for the front blinkers... if you pick up down on the headlight wiring you only get the rear blinkers and the system goes a bit nutty... but I got it figured out in the end.

Yesterday I went and "did a thing"... I put a deposit on a new bike. It is being built this month so should be here some time in August or September... maybe... depending on shipping delays and port issues.. lol

Now I just need to decide on the accesories.. hmm heated grips is a must as will be bobbins. I will need to think about the others.. a quick shifter would be nice but maybe after it is run in :)

I'm still playing with bikes: YZ 125 for racing, the Beta trials bike needs a full restoration but only got a front brake repair and washed, the ZX-6R got some fairing mounts repaired and fork seals replaced (rear shockie to be rebuilt), and the YZ 250 got stared at....

In other news, I completed my trade.

Not much this Queens Birthday weekend... my youngest Daughter came down from Sydney for the weekend so Saturday was sightseeing and Yesterday we were up to Mount Buffalo to see some fresh snow... only an hour or so from home too...
Today... well I slipped the engine out of the SRX and plonked it on the bench.
Now to find an M10x1.25 Helicoil kit and resolve the issue with the oil feed...
Better pics of how it is now.

You can see one of the intake ports and the oil line feed above it.

And here is a view of the stripped thread.

Oh... and one of Mount Buffalo (Dingo Dell toboggin slope) :D

It snows in Australia? Stone the crows mate! I genuinely did not know so feel pretty dumb.
I thought skiing would be a walk in the park as I have roller skated/ice skated and ridden speedway solos. Basically all the stuff where gravity is trying its hardest to claim another win. Skiing however is another kettle of fish altogether. My boy took to it easily and was doing jumps after a few lessons... :superman:

Not often, that's why everyone is rushing out to it! It looked like snow in Central Queensland the other day, but it was just frost...

The seasons seem to be kind of ridiculous of late. over here anyway. Winter only seems to have started this week with a wee bit of rain and lower temps but still not had a frost in my 200m above sea level town. Very concerning considering I could almost choose between a head of brocolli or getting head. Is that allowed on this forum? Climate change is happening whether we like it or not..

It snows pretty much every year in the Alpine Areas... (near me) some years are better than others... this year looks like it will be a good year for it..

My pile of dog **** Yamaha XSR 155 died. I thought it was the fuel pump so took the tank off. It requires that you remove 22 screws and assorted pieces of plastic to do that. Sandy Munro would have an aneurysm.
    Screws.jpg
Turned out it wasn't the pump. Oh well check ECU thingy.
    Wires.jpg
Are you kidding me? First of all how did it get into this state and secondly the entire design is sh*t. The section of the harness that mounts to the ECU should not be stretched (it is), twisted (it is) and the ECU should be mounted in the best possible position to ensure that there is no risk of abrasion (it isn't). This is just pathetic. CB750 Honda fours had better laid out wiring harnesses than this piece of crap that is only 3 years old.
I patched it by splicing a joiner piece in and used some heat shrink to seal it. So long as it keeps going until I can get a Royal Enfield, a W800 or I drop dead, it will have to do.

Well, after many years of not getting far, I put a rocket in the tailpipe of the YZ 250 and finished it! Mostly thanks to my boss, who took the bike from looking like it was a barn find (more like paddock find) to a pretty, race-ready weapon:
    IMG_20220716_083554_HDR.jpg
The photo doesn't do it justice, poor camera and it had already been on the track. Good power (especially over the 125), just need to tweak the suspension, and massively improve the rider: slow, old and unfit.

The rocket? I sold the YZ 125. And nominated for a the Don River Dash - that's a longer story.

Another customer bike, 1098 streetfighter. Came in running for desmo valve adjustments and new belts.

Front cylinder clearances were good, the rear was not. Really excessive drag on the exhaust closers, and the spark plug was damaged - bent electrode and cracked/missing ceramic on the business end:

That was clue #1 that something was wrong. Clue #2 was that after setting both the exhaust closer clearances and then the exhaust opening clearances, it was running on one cylinder. Oh dear. Tried a balance but it was moot. Measured compression, a healthy 175+ PSI on the front pot, and a not so healthy big fat zero on the rear cylinder.

Made sure the exhaust cam was in the closed position and pumped compressed air into the exhaust. Massive leakage past the exhaust valves and out the spark plug thread (plug removed).

This morning I pulled the head off and was greeted by this carnage:

That's light clearly shining past the exhaust valves. Not very good... but it gets worse:

    :help:

I've never seen a Ducati piston fail like that. Unsure what the true cause is - faulty plug dropping a bit of ceramic and smashing the piston and exhaust valves, or faulty piston breaking off and smashing the spark plug (more likely I think)... but was there any FOD in the cylinder? Unknown. The good news is that the bore feels okay and may be able to get away with a new piston and valve/seat reconditioning/replacement, but will need to pull the barrel and check the bottom end.

Pretty expensive way to end a desmo service and belt change!
