Welcome on board Ron. You've got me intrigued with a Suzuki Across racer, love to see some pictures as I'm sure would  many others. Again welcome to the site    Phil

    G'day to all,

Nice to see a clean looking forum layout, and great to see a forum for 250s!

Me? I'm riding a purple 1996 Suzuki Across and I'm in love again. The bike seems to be in good nick with only 27K on the clock.

I grew up riding bikes, but that was cut short when I ran head-on into a 5 tonne Ford Bedford on a country road when I was 16. (he cut the corner) Many months in hospital and a realy damaged knee which I've carried around for the last 26 years.

The last year or so I've had stress/anxiety related insomnia due primarily to my job. So to get to sleep, instead of counting sheep, I found myself reminiscing along every single dirt track I rode as a kid. Recalling every single contour bank and stretch of road. Had to go to Google Earth to check on a few parts that were missing from my memories but it was all pretty much still in the memory banks. It got me to sleep, and one morning I woke up and figured I needed a bike again.

So, it's freakin' great to be 'back on the bike' - only on my L permit at the moment but will do the full licence test in a month or so. Besides, as you'd imagine, I need the practice.

Anyhoo, end of story. Glad to be on board ;D

    Brad

Welcome on board Brad, you are on a good bike, Suzuki is the real thing. Guess we have all had a break from riding, but isn't it great when you get back on, can't beat that feeling. Again welcome.    Phil

Yeah I'm already thinking about more power Chris. What carbs did you use out of interest? I'd not have the time to do it at this point of my life, but would like to know for further down the track.

Someone asked that I post a pic of my Across, so here 'tis... The 'Across' stickers have been removed by my dad, who generously picked it up for me from Coffs Harbour and rode it down to Ballarat for me. He reckoned they looked crap and I have to agree. He had a pretty sore bum for a few days after.

Anyone got any tricks for softening up the seats on the Across?

I think I'll get a second hand seat and get it re-upholstered. Maybe I'll just get used to it.

ha ha, common complain the seat is a tad harsh on long rides, a few people I have seen have a lambs wool cover or air hawk to porvide that much needed comfort. As for carbies, I kep the standard ones and replaced the pilot jets with new ones from Mikuni (30) , then I replaced the main jets with 92.5 on the 2 outer carbies and 95's on the inner 2 carbies.

    Thanks

    Chris

    So what's 'Air Hawk'?

And why different main jet sizes on the inner and outer carbs?

Don't worry  - I got plenty more stupid questions ;)

    Hey Brad

An Airhawk is an add on for your seat made up of multiple rubber air bags , they join to each other so they mold to your rear end and make your seat softer. From memory, they are about $180

    thanks

    Chris

    Hey Brad
I've been using an airhawk for over a year on my CBR and couldn't be happier, makes those long rides more enjoyable. Got mine on the sunshine coast. Well worth the investment.

    Hi Brad,
No such thing as a stupid question, I use an Air Hawk on the Sprint, makes all day achievable, and just to top it off it sits under the sheepskin nicely...........a bit damp when it gets wet mind.
Picked mine up at the bike expo at the Convention Centre a few years ago, the other half is demanding I get one for her perch, just can't seem to find one!!
    Stay Safe,
    Mark
