Off to the Stay Upright testing on Sunday to hopefully lose my Learner permit and gain my license.

good luck Brad,  my tips for passing your license are simple

    1. look through the corners, not down
    2. Keeps your revs constant on figure of 8's ( makes it heaps easier)
    3. When doing your slow ride, make sure you look ahead ( look for someting to focus on), looking down will cause you to wobble
    4. Lots of mirror checks, make sure you know who and what is around you
    5. Relax, its just a driving test :)  make sure you take it easy and have some fun as this is waht its all about.

    Cheers

    Chris

congrats Brad, well done mate  :D

Glad yours went better than mine, I was getting my open license on my SV650s after a year on my RE license, I managed to complete all the tech work, ie slow riding, slaloms etc then as I rolled away from completing my figure of 8's, I noticed my clutch was gone, I let it sit for about 20 mins, then we headed out for the road test, I made it 500m up the road my clutch was gone.

I called my Dad who came up and met me, we nursed the old girl revving its head off in 6th doing about 40 kms per hour and promptly headed to my local bike shop for new clutch plates. Within an hour, we had fitted a new clutch, replaced the oil. I was escorted back to my Qride school ready for my road test, which I managed to get done at dusk and passed my open license. I was getting that thing and nothing was going to stop me  8)

Anyway, congrats again on passing, hope you enjoy a few cold ones in celebration.

    Cheers

    Chris

    What a drama!

So they let you do your licence exam on your own bike in QLD.

Down here (or 'down hayer' as the Mexicans pronounce it) you have to use one of Stay Upright's bikes - a CB250 single cruiser thing (yuck). Gotta say it felt good to get back on the Across.

The exam is almost laughably easy too. No 'figure eights' like you mentioned - just the stopping test and a counter-steer swerve test, and travelling through a corner without your wheels touch the white lines depicting the corner (both directions).

For the stopping and counter-steer swerve test you approach a set of lights that randomly show either a stop light (red) or either of two orange 'indicator' style lights. Apparently the battery was on the way out by the time it got to my run, and the unit didn't show any lights for my first four runs towards it. By the time it did work I was fully expecting it to not function and really did have to hit the anchors when the red light appeared. The instructor was a bit apologetic and said I'd passed anyway.

But on top of that, myself and the other four examinees were all under the assumption we were having practice runs - until we asked and found out we were doing the actual test. On top of that we had to keep asking the instructor what the hell he was saying! The dude kinda mumbled and muttered throughout the entire day. Weird.

Anyways, all good, and now I don't get that 'L-plate' treatment on the road.

Well done Brad, the open road awaits. The thought of failing a test kinda of winds us up, and yet most times it's just a case of doing what you do everyday.
Enough of that, it's over and done with and you are the winner. Congrats mate and enjoy the ride.  Phil
