Hi all, My brother has a ZXR250 which his mate borrowed, and then wouldn't start. It's had a bunch of random problems before, the reg/rec blew, plus the thermo fan switch has never worked and it's been run off a manual switch, consequently it's been pretty hot in the past. The starting issue was solved by a new battery, finally, after replacing all the plugs, leads, and doing the valve clearances. However, there is now what I think is an oil leak from the head, right above the number 4 exhaust pipe. It looks like above each of the exhaust ports there is a small hole, and oil appears to be weeping out of this hole. I've had a look at the service manual and the internet and I can't work out the function of this hole or why oil would come out of it. Possibly overheating has caused a slight crack in the head? I suppose the real question is, if I fill it up with JB weld is it going to be an issue later on, ie, does the hole serve any purpose?
It will be either one of these, gasket or cam cap. When the plugs are in, oil or water drains out them holes. Heres the view from below the spark plugs
Ohh.. so the hole is meant to be there and it drains oil from the sparkplug well? So in effect it's leaking oil from the spark plug well, gotcha! I didn't even think of that, thanks. When it first leaked I assume it was from the edge of the cam cover gasket, when I removed it to reseat the gasket I noted one of the o-rings was not in place. I've since superglued them onto the cover, perhaps the oil leak is residual from previously. I'll investigate further, thank you very much.
