Water injection was used quite a lot on vehicles with carbs in days gone by.

A fine atomised spray works best.
Too much will put the fire out. :lolsign:

I used a little mist bottle. Not sure if I did enough I never really saw steam come out. It does seem to idle smoother though? Could just be my imagination. I'll re try tomorrow before doing the compression test again

Trying to decarbonise the engine with water injection and think I over did the last squirt and f'd it. Started bogging and wouldn't rev at all then stalled. Thought maybe just the float bowls had water so emptied them but won't start now and sounds like it's knocking somewhere.

the prob;em is the engine may not have gotten rid of all the 'mist' from your previous sprays, resulting in much more wATER in your cylinder than you ever want. Personally I would've been very hesitant to even try it.....but I'm a big scaredy cat

I think I was right with water in the bowls. I just forgot to turn the fuel tap back on hahahahahaha :headbang:
Runs fine now responds way better to throttle than it has in ages.
I don't think ill do the water trick anymore though. Lol

I haven't re checked the compression since doung the water thing. Ran out of time.
But just by ear it idles smoother and no longer hangs before returning to idle.
Throttle response is way better with no hesitation.

I need to adjust the clutch a little but that's nothing major.

I think it's in a state where it will pass rego now so that is priority one since it only needs a pink slip for another week before a blue would be required.

After that I will work on fine tuning to get it "perfect"

Definitely need to check valve clearances. Motor has 75k on it and doesn't seem to have been looked after very well.
If a shim job doesn't make much difference I'll look at doing a rebuild or replacing the engine.

Wouldn't be a bad idea doing clearances. Check/replace your cam chain and cam gears if need be. Check the crank gear too.... If that is the set up on your bike.

hey guys, just doing some general maintenance and checking torque of important stuff today.
stumbled onto this page in the service manual.

this shows two separate lines coming off the carbs as breather lines. however my carbs have a single short hose connecting these two ports.

which way is the right way? very confused here.

    thanks for any help

is there a seal or gasket i will need to replace when doing valve clearances?

picked up a used motor gunna give it the once over before putting it in.

also got a set of carbs but they are badly gunked and would need more work than i care to do haha.

Put some new mirrors on today and now I'm happy with how the bike is.

Of course now that I'm happy something has to go wrong, and so it did....
Revs seem to climb at idle. If I rev it it will hang high amd stay there. Anyone have any suggestions? Haven't fiddled with the carbs or anything like that. I don't think it's the throttle sticking because it climbs on its own.
