It has been a while since I had anything delivered that didnt have the GST paid by the sender... and I think the GST side has changed since then anyway... I am guessing you will get an email from the Courier company with advice from Customs letting you know how much needs to be paid... and a way to pay it... just be careful of any "links" in the email, treat everything as a scam until you are 100% sure of it.

i will ring up customs in cairns and see what they have to say ,looking at the webpages and they only tell you what to do and etc if your the seller , just hope it doesnt mean im having to go to cairns to pick up and pay the gst , your right about the scams so will have to be careful there as coming from india , the company im dealing with is legit though

    From https://www.abf.gov.au/buying-online/importing-by-post-or-mail
Goods that arrive by mail and have a declared or assessed value of AUD1000 or less, there are generally no duties, taxes or charges at the border, unless they are alcoholic beverages.

However, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) may be collected by overseas vendors of such low value goods when imported from overseas by consumers in Australia (excluding alcoholic beverages). GST will be charged at the point of sale and not at the border.

We do not collect taxes for the Australian, nor any other government, and we never will. If we were to ever get close to the Aus Gov threshold of some $70000 AUD pa, where GST collection is mandatory on our part, then we would just cease private sales to Aus. The EU has an even more absurd system, where we would have to use an EU approved EU company to process the collection of tax by us at a minimum charge of approximately EUR4000 per year regardless of the quantity/value of goods sold. Imagine if we had to act as tax collectors for every country that we ship to.

yep its stupidity at best , all brought on in australia by harvey norman ,he pushed for yrs to have GST on all goods imported by the public under 1000 bucks ,couldnt stand to see the public buying cheaper than he was selling ,being in thailand and shipping to australia , do you know how it works for me the importer ...if i do nothing will they invoice me ,do i wait to be contacted before filling out the import declamation (form b374 (n10) ie self assesment form ,,, reading between the lines it seems like doing nothing might be the best bet but its risking 500 bucks and seems these a difference between coming by post and coming by courier .... AHHHHH ...help,,,no word back from the customs broker yet

Dont worry about it. The ATO created this rule (GST for purchases under AUD $1,000) mostly for the large companies, like Amazon, eBay, etc. When the rule came out, I spoke to an ATO consultant about the impact of this rule in my case. They said that, although it's obligation of the overseas sender to collect GST and forward it to the ATO, they wouldn't enforce. None of my suppliers do it, and I never have to pay GST when the items arrive.
Because the rule was created for the large eCommerce platform, they already do it. They will include GST on the price when you buy something through their platform. If they don't, you don't have to do anything.
