Hi, Im new...! need some help with some electrical problems

    Hi, I'm Jacky and I've got a 88 2KR FZR250 not long ago... LOVE THE BIKE!! =D

    This site is so awesome and have followed a few instructions on changing my brake pads, chains and sprockets.

    However....no '88 bike is without their problems.

    I was riding last night on some bumpy 3rd world country roads in western Sydney and all of a sudden i realized my normal lights had gone off and only the parkers were on. So my first instinct was to look for a fuse box. The bike has been messed around with a bit and there seems to be random fuse 'holders' everywhere under the rider's seat (which i checked already and none of them were blown). Then i found this black box in the pillion compartment that looks like a normal fuse box.. IT was a pain to open the side (the only opening to the box) and to have a glimpse inside which doesn't exactly look like a fuse box... I'm not that much of an electrically-minded person but I've supplied some pics... may I guess it's something to do with the engine management since it's Denso??? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm a noob....

    Oh btw, the fuses in those random fuse holders read 30A and 5A respectively, if that eliminates anything...

    Seal that back up, very carefully. That is your TCI / black box; any moisture gets in there and your engine stops working. <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

    No fuse on the lights. Try checking the light switch, hi-lo switch or the plugs to it. Powered directly from the ignition circuit. If the bike runs the lights should go.

    P.S.: it might have the light switch bridged out to run all the time.

    Have you actually checked that the globes are not blown?

    Thanks for the replies guys.

    I have taken the right hand switch out and taken a look.. Everything seems fine from my noobie perspective.. I have yet to take out the left hand Hi-Lo switch.

    But, could anyone teach me how i could diagnose the problem from taking out the switches? Like I'm not sure what's the ignition circuit.. (noob) and how would i connect that up?

    And no, the light bulbs are not blown..

    If worst comes to worst, would there be an alternative wiring i could rig up? (i.e. using the parkers' wiring and connect that to the normal bulbs or would that just cause problems..?

    Well firstly I'm not that great with electricity but if you want to diagnose the problem you would basically need a multimeter.

    Upon taking the switch apart see if the connector( The one that's coming from the engine loom) is getting any voltage if not well someone
    else can answer that for you cos I wouldn't know what to do.

    To test the switch if I am not mistaken you would need to check for continuity which should be a feature included in your multimeter.
    Just on multimeters go to Repco they have a nice cheap Projecta one for 20 dollars at most, I got mine for 16 on special.
    If there is no continuity on the switch with closed circuit then I would be looking at replacing the switches.

    Dave the guru should be able to give you an educated answer haha

    Also using the parkers wiring for main headlights to me is a very bad idea basically too much load on a smaller cable would=failure.

    I've seen some fair hack jobs in terms of wiring is yours unmolested so to speak? If you have electrical tape over bodged repairs take it all off
    and follow where the cable goes to and see if there is any badly made connections.

    Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. All is good now.....

    Took out the Hi-Lo switch today and found that a blue wire came undone, so just re-soldered that and all is working.
