    Hi I m new to the forum . I m from Canada and I m in the market for a 250cc 4cyl. Thank you

I m in the market for a 250cc and I m looking for a honda cbr250rr or a Suzuki gsxr250rr. From my research , the cbr250rr is the most popular. They have more parts on internet , they have a bigger fame. What make the cbr250rr so popular?
    Brand fame from brand snob?
    Relibility?
    Power?

Both look like identical on papers. Hp, rpm , weigth. . .

    Thank you

    Hi Daoust

Welcome to the forum, I saw in your other post that you hail from Canada, I guess the challange is can you get either of these bikes there ? The CBR250RR MC22 was sold in Australia in limited numbers, but we also had plenty of grey imports and as such they are by far the most popular in-line 4 250cc bike here, in saying that we also had plenty of FZR250's and ZXR250's imported here as well. Alas the GSXR250 didnt make it here is large numbers, I have aspired to own one, but they are quite rare, so its difficult to comment as to parts availability, reliability etc.

Parts for the CBR250RR are still available, what we are seeing is as some parts are no longer available from honda, that chinese pattern parts are popping up, are they any good ? only time will tell.

As reliability, the CBR250RR is popular because honda used gear driven cams in the head, so you dont have to worry about cam chains. The rev like mad, I recently built one up as a track bike and it was so much fun out on the track.

Best bet, find one for sale, have a ride... buy the one that puts the biggest smile on your dial.

    Cheers

    Chris

    Thank you Chris.

They are not really available in Canada but there are some importer that bring them from Japan so I have the chance to get the Honda or Suzuki but I have some works to do on them. Any info is always a big help on my final choice. Thank you again

:welcome: to the community. Personally i think anything from that era of inline 4 Cyl is a good bike (if you can get your head around carbs) I like the zxr250, cbr250rr, gsxr250 and fzr250 and there naked counterparts alot and would take which is easiest to get in my country :)

Welcome to the forum, I would check out part availability in Canada and the US, no point buying something you are going to struggle finding parts for. Both great bikes, shame you can't test ride first, does it feel right?
Anyway, good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Hi and welcome, I am currently doing up a GSXR250 and yes it is a much rarer motorcycle here in Australia than the CBR250RR. It does however share nearly all engine parts with the GSX250F Across that was sold here in larger numbers than the CBR. I have found it also shares quite a few chassis and misc parts with the VJ21 RGV250 model which makes things like discs, pads, sprockets etc. readily available. Full Litetek carb kits are available and there are heaps of parts on the Yahoo Japan auctions that can be bought through a 3rd party service. I would say it is a slightly bigger bike than an MC22. Biggest downsides are an 18" back wheel on the GJ73A and no English workshop manual exists. But if you are a Suzuki fan don't write it off, there is life in these bikes yet!

    daoust..

hi from here in the uk..and this is all objective..but opinionated as I'm actually a gsxr owner lol! spares availability for the gsxr is not as good as the cbr..pretty much where ever you live on the globe as far fewer were sold..but I think I can source over 90pc of original parts either new or used as I've rebuilt a fair few of these..and all service parts without exception (from filters bearings discs etc) through to valves seals rings etc..i'm not an expert on the mc22 but I know you can get good horsepower from the gsxr..they seem to make around 42-44 bhp as standard dependent on condition but you can get this upto an easy 47-48 and one engine I've done has turned out just over 50..the cbr seems stronger as stock but I haven't heard of anyone getting more than 47 bhp or so from one..thats jetted, race can etc..it doesn't sound much but 5bhp is 10pc of the engines power lol..Honda is revvier (but ive only rode two of them courtesy of my mates) but the Suzuki's got more of a powerband..if that's what you can call it..gsxr faster at about 202kmh against the Honda's 186-190 but both might go faster as im not far off thirteen stone!! Honda's better handling by a mile as stock and feels much more planted and well engineered if that's the phrase..and the build quality of the honda puts the suzuki to shame..gsxr is a bit more crude but changes direction faster and has better traction mid corner through exit..neithers the best looking 250 4cyl 4 stroke ( zxr 250) but both have their merits..and yes i'm looking for a zxr lol :)..not sure if its any faster or better handling than the cbr or gsxr but those looks..cant get one as yet again another week on ebay gumtree and every other site has led me to believe there are none available for sale in the uk :(:( you don't need a test ride you just need to ride!!!!

    Welcome Daoust.

Like Simon (UK) my wife has a GSXR. I have a ZXR (A model) and ride both so I can give you a bit of an idea. I've never ridden a CBR and am looking forward to owning one soon as I believe it's the "fastest" of all the 250cc/4cyl Japanese screamers.

That's my wife's bike in my avatar. The ZXR feels quicker and faster. It also feels bigger than the GSXR. The GSXR seems to handle and brake a little better, but the ZXR does everything pretty well. If Simon has managed to get 50hp out of a GSXR, then that's a real accomplishment.

Would I go for a GSXR or a CBR? Well, I'd buy both, see which one suits me better and then move the other one on.

    Cheers

Read Simon's post before mine. He's a bit of a Suzuki guru.

welcome along mate. i believe its all down to personal preferance. have a look at all inline 4's if you can, i think there all as good as eachother really. i'd only really consider the availability of aftermarket parts if you plan on racing or restoring.

Never ridden either model so can't offer any help there.
Looks like the other forum members have it sorted though!

both??? Your a lucky dude!! best bhp was rear wheel with yoshi exhaust, 0.18/0.22 valve clearances, head skimmed -20tho, slotted sprockets with timing matched to suit..but the biggest gains are made with the ignition and a set of dyna coils and race cdi with raised rev limit..this needed different rods and pistons though which came with different valves..if your interested i'll send you where I got mine from but be prepared to wait as there rare as hens teeth even in japan (and seriously expensive lol..from memory just under £1800 not sure what that is in canada)..i'll get the dyno run out and map that over the latest rebuild im doing now so you can see the gains and where there made..the latest one will be totally standard (even exhaust) but I have rejetted the carbs up a bit..should be good for 46-47 me thinks as its pretty much a new engine with only 1500 miles or so on it..now for the bad news..
As far as I know there is no supplier who does aftermarket fairings for the gj72a or 73a gsxr's..but the good news is whilst there not 'readily' available pretty much everything can be found on the net (at a price!) if your prepared to wait..if you give me a list of the panels you want then i'll do my best to track them down..in the uk the only piece I wont be able to source for sure is the mid tailpiece section on the 73a..though I can get you an alterative one made in fibreglass - if my mould works lol :)!!!

Cheers si..and post us some pics of your bikes m8..cant wait to see them and the thought of two more back on our roads is :):):)
