Hey i bought a gsx250f 2 weeks ago and its been 1 problem after another, the main things that are the issue that i'd like help/advice with are...

Carby: the idle goes "hunting", I have pulled the main parts of the carby apart and cleaned as much as I could (I didn't want to totally dismantle it without a diagram handy), also a few times ( only when hot I think) and I try to take of at a a set of traffic lights and when the bike should start to take off it loses ALL revs, when it does eventually take off it feels asthough the hole 16.5 rev limit is the same as having 2k revs. the fuel filters look very clean, although i have not check the mesh filters connected to the petcock. Also if anyone can help set the air/fuel mixture.
How many km's does everyone get out of a full tank of fuel?

Valves: while i'm changing ripped gaskets and re-doing coolant and everything I thought I mays well check valve clearences. I found a tutorial on here which Is a great tutorial but the way the lobes sit I think it may be out of timing, can anyone help me to work out if its in timing and if it is to put it back right.

fuses: i'm not so worried about this one as i think its just a faulty connection but a fuse has randomly blown a couple times. did anyone else have this issue?

fork seals: i'm changing the fork seal as they are both ripped. Does anyone have a tutorial?

overheating: It seems as though its getting too hot, i am doing a coolant and oil change, is there anything else i should check out or change?

I do have experience working on my other bikes and i am very handy with tools so that is not a issue, its just i dont have the knowledge on this bike and i dont want to take it to a mechanic as i've had bad experiences. I did buy a mnual online but it is a very poor photocopied version which you cant see the pictures or read all the words.
I even got a mobile mechanic to do a pre-purchase inspection and he cleared everything (except idle hunting) saying it was a good bike which is why i paid the higher price, but he missed 3 obvious fuel leaks, and obvious oil leak, and the bike only had about 800ml-1000ml of oil in it. not even showing on the eye glass.
My name is chris, i have a gsx250f 1997, its a AWESOME bike, and appreciate any help. Thanks
[ I will upload pictures this afternoon]

Have you balanced your carbs ? If the balance is out, they will hunt. I would make sure she is running on all 4 cylinders, check your leads to your plugs and the plugs themselves and see what they tell you about how its running. The pilot screws which control your air\fuel mix should be set to 1.5 turns out and can be adjusted in 1/8 of a turn increments. Something else to check is that your emulsion tubes are clean and that the float high is correctly set

As for timing, your photocopied manual will have the steps to set\check your timing, that's all we have too, I haven't been able to find a better copy.

As for your forks seals, they are standard forks, have a look on youtube for a how to video to replace the seals.

Hey, I agree with @kiffsta, definately get your carby's balanced as this is a major pain with this bike.

The bike does run quite hot, and found I had to fully flush the radiator every few months to keep it from getting too hot. Also watch for the power drain when the thermo fan kicks in.

On average I got between 160 and 180kms to the tank, running 95 premium.

Thanks for the input, is there another way of balancing carbs or do i need to buy a carby balancer? (if so i'm looking at these 2 ....

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-Column...003198?hash=item43b0803d7e:g:bNIAAOSwdvpWDaCL

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CARB-CAR...724527?hash=item35ee25d92f:g:rC8AAOxyUrZSz4vS

    what do you think?)

I'm checking leads tonight, i've already bought new plugs but i'm going to inspect the gap on the old ones anyway.

Are you saying the pilot air/fuel is factory set at all the way in then 1.5 turns out? cause mine was set at all the way in then 3 full turns out.

What part of the float do i measure to check correct float height?

As for timing, the only thing i could find in the manual was on 3-51 (i'm having troubles uploading pic), have i missed information in it somewhere else?

    Thanks, Chris

i was going to put a switch in for the fan to be either ON or sensor (how it is now), but now your saying battery drain might be an issue i might hold off.
Last tank i got about 50-60kms (not a spelling error), i wasn't down to reserve but i filled it up with about 9-10 Litres. With the fuel/air screw is the further you undo it (anti-clockwise) making it richer, and the further in it is (clockwise) the leaner it makes it? cause mine was set to the whole way in, then 3 full revolutions out. from what kiffsta was saying it sounds like it may have been very rich, and both my fuel sensor bolts (underneath tank) had a small leak, and 1 float bowl in carby was leaking. All the fuel leaks are fixed now though

when changing the spark plugs, one of the leads came out of the boot, so i trimmed it back but it didnt feel like it wanted to go back in. Is it the standard leads you can trim back or ONLY aftermarket leads?

You can trim back the stock ones, don't take too much off otherwise it wont thread back in, or you will have to use a nail or similar to bore a hole that the cap will thread to

ok guys.... bike will turn over but not start. timing is good/ carby is good/ spark plugs is new/ battery is good/ compression is good on the 2 outside cylinders 150psi, with my compression tester i cannot access cylinders 2 and 3. HOWEVER i am getting oil on 3 out of 4 spark plugs. Any idea why i would be getting oily spark plugs with good compression and what else could prevent it from starting. Thanks

    Are the leads correct?
1 coil for cylinders 1 and 4 and the other does 2 and 3

i think my left side coil does the 2 left cylinders, right side coil does 2 right side cylinders. so your saying the left side does outside cylinders, and the right coil does inside cylinders. is this also for a 1997 model
