New Member Greetings from Ireland

Great Forum and thank you for allowing me to join.
After (stupidly) selling by CBR250RR MC22 a few years back I had to have another 250 in my life to keep the Mini Moto (wrist breaker), the Italjet 50 cc moped (heart breaker), Suzuki GS125 daily rider (spirit breaker) and the Honda VFR750F (Back breaker, such a heavy machine). So, a chance phone call with a mate who was closing down his bike shop due to poxy COVID19 revealed a chance to purchase a Yamaha FZX250 Zeal for little money. Is there a catch, I hear you say? But of course there is, but only a couple of major ones, such as no registration papers because the original owner has died and his family cannot locate the ownership papers, no keys (sorted now!) and a teeny tiny matter of the bike having been left outside in a coastal location for a very short 14 year spell....
These bikes are Grey Import only here in Ireland and not very many at all made it here, in the last year I have had the bike (could be more, time in lockdown due to COVID19 does not count for anything) I have seen 1 running bike and 1 spares bike for sale. The spares bike was on the far side of the country during lockdown so that could not be bought and it would have been handy but hey, maybe another might yet turn up.
So far, the jobs that I have done are these:
Freed off the front caliper, now the front wheel can spin.
Junked the rear shocks, heavy and useless (a bit like meself!)
Freed up the seized rear chain.
Fitted a new (Chinese copy) rear caliper, now the back wheel is as free as the front.
Sorted out the missing key issue so now I have a working ignition and lock, opening tank filler and working helmet/seat lock.
Sorted the front headlight bowl and chrome rim that were out of shape from a trip on the side down a road at some stage.
Re-housed the speedo and tacho internals in Yamaha YBR125 housings, hopefully I can upload some pics for you, a neat job even if I say so myself.
Painted the bars in black which really suits the bike I think.
Freed up the engine which now turns over on the starter but there is a mystery electrical issue that I will get sorted if it kills me that means I have no spark and the engine does not turn over with the kill switch in the ON position, so it may be the clutch lever switch or the side stand switch that is preventing it from turning over when in the ON position. Any ideas are more than welcome but the wiring is going to get a major talking to one of these days.
So, jobs still to do:
Strip the carbs and give a thorough cleaning. Have an ultrasonic tank so that is a start.
Give the fuel tank a damn good clean out, thankfully there is no rust that I can see in it so a light refresh will go a long way there.
Sort out the exhaust, the original is still on it but the baffles in the end cans are, or were, mild steel and there is not a lot left. With virtually no spares available, it looks like I may have to cut out the old baffles and weld in new DB killer type inserts, if anybody has any better ideas, let me know please.
I have numerous new parts for this, cosmetic mostly such as indicators, mirrors, bar grips and end weights, tank protector etc., and if I get bored I also have new switch gear that I could put on however the block connectors are different so the multi-meter and tools would have to come out for that.
Anyway, enough of the introduction, thanks again for adding me and all comments-advice-offers of free things, good, bad or indifferent are welcome.
