I wasn’t sure whether or not to start a new thread but anyway I emailed kiwami (impex corporation) about new needles and jets as they seem to stock a wide range of OEM quality new spares for the fzr such as air filters and engine to carburettor rubbers etc and because they are the only place I’ve seen selling the emulsion tubes separately I assumed that they may also stock the needles too.

Link to some of their fzr stuff here:

    https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/seller...slider=0&f_adv=1&fr=auc_adv&ngram=1#localnavi

Anyway I enquired about the needles and they got back to me saying that they don’t have them for the fzr at the moment and asked me for the part numbers so they could get on to their suppliers about getting a batch made up, so I sent them on the part numbers and am currently just waiting for their reply on price.

I’ve had a look through various threads here and it seems from what I can find anyway, that all models of the fzr250 use mikuni 5ct7 and 5ct9 needles yet they have different part numbers in the parts book, so does anyone know what the difference is if any?? part no 34 on the image from the parts book below.

I"m not much help, but in regard to the 5CT7 and 6CT9 Needle's

    So the needle's used are 5 serie's,
The C (first letter) identify's the first taper, the earlier in the alphabet, the smaller the taper
The T (second Letter) is the second taper - the earlier in the alphabet, the smaller the taper (if no second letter there is no second taper)
The last part of the number, 7 or 9 is part of their i/d as well but not sure what it relates to

I don't know what the specific difference are but in my experience a different part number means a different part. Motorcycle spares warehouse sells Keyster kits here in Melbourne with new tubes/needles - they are pricey (around $50) and are the full set but so far it's the only option I've seen. I've tried like you have to source needles/tubes (possibly others have too) but I personally haven't had much luck, hopefully you can dig up something.

The Kiwami kits you have there are almost triple the MSW price for a rebuild kit, without postage (which is always expensive from japan)

Those carby kit's are for a set or 4 by my understanding of the listing
    In the description it say's-
1 ) * The pictures are images of 1 kit (1 cylinder) each.
※ Each product comes with 2 kits. It is the price with a total of 4 kits (4 cylinders).

I reckon the part number's look like Keyster number's too
    IPX KY-1227YKS YKU

Make sure you buy the right kit's for your model though

yes im aware of that, notice how the part number changes for each model yet the needles are the same 5ct7 and 5ct9's??

the more i look at the parts book the more i think the needles are in fact the same, as the part number is for a needle set which includes shims and clips etc, i reckon this is where the differences arise.

    Capture5.PNG

and i found this spreadsheet online indicating the mikuni numbers are unique to specific lengths and angles so if the needles were different they would have a different code.

    Capture3.PNG

yes that was my understanding as well but will probably need someone fluent in japanese to confirm.........or i could just fire them off an email, but anyway the point of this exercise is to be able to get these things seperately so that i dont have to go out and buy a full keystar kit every time the needles and tubes wear, i use the litetek seals anyway so most of it will be going in the bin!! its no harm to have options.

Needle setup changed in the later models ... to stop the wear in the tubes

excellent, that must be it so, I will post back when Impex get back to me with prices etc. It might not suit everyone but at least it will be an option.

Yes, that would be good instead of having to buy full Keyster kits each time.... can you get the tubes as well as the needles?

i was sick a few weeks ago and off work so spent literally days trawling the web for fzr stuff, i must start a few more threads actually, some of the japanese owners blogs are quite good, and i bought a job lot of old grey import magazines from the 90's with cool reviews etc, must scan them in and post them up they're quite interesting.

Great find. Hope they're cost effective, at $20/tube with postage (maybe $10?) The keyster kits aren't exactly unreasonable...

nope the keystar kits are great value for what they are and buying stuff in a kit will always be cheaper than buying stuff individually, however i dont want to be chucking half of it in the bin either!! it probably wont work out all that much cheaper than the full kits when all is said and done especially if, like me, you're using the litetek seals instead so it wont suit everyone, but its nice to know they are available and i have the option should i so wish.

    Thanks for the help.
This is the (zeal) more effective needle retention system you refer to where the needle is screwed into the diaphragm slide. Which is not present on the 3LN1 or 3LN5.

Yes that is THE needle retention mechanism that you want to keep

If the Zeal carbs throats are the same - replace all jets including the needle jet with parts for 3LN3/5
