Heres some pics from this thread https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/my-fzr250-3ln-project.1792/#post-14635
The FZR 3LN1 shock is 40mm width and is a nice slide fit into the SRX frame (same width as the SRX top mount). The R6 shock is 30mm width... so a 5mm spacer each side will do the trick.. it looks to be quite a bit more than that in the pics though... The SRX mount doesnt have the thick mounts like the FZR... thought they are steel... and looking at it I am going to have to cut out quite a bit to clear it... but thats OK... If I have to add some gussets on the outside of the mounts it isnt too big a deal.
Hmm perhaps I had to stack two washers each side - the 5mm difference does look like much more than that in the pics. Now it's got me pondering why I didn't investigate replacing the sleeve with a wider one
Haha... these things make the brain hurt... I will either get spacers done in Alloy or HDPE... HDPE is top of the list right now... I can probably buy small nolathane bushes and machine them down at home using a Cap screw to hold onto my drill... As long as they are the same width it will all be OK.
How did you come up with 122mm ? My 3LN3 dog bone's are 140mm long 3LN1 dog bone's are a different part number to 3LN3, 5, 6, 7
OK that's interesting - I got the 122mm (hole centre to hole centre length) number elsewhere from someone that had successfully completed the operation The original post which yielded the 122mm measurement was here http://www.fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=3554&p=27985#p28046 You could determine the number experimentally - prop the back where it should be, remove old shock, and replace with new then see where the dog bones should be shortened to, that was the basic process I read about
That link doesn't work for me. This thread mention's he had new dog bone's made that were 8mm shorter that standard, so i'm thinking 132mm maybe ? https://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/my-fzr250-3ln-project.1792/#post-14635
The old FZR250 forum was taken over by us ... u would have to search the archives for the original thread on this topic ... I remember reading it back in the day. https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?forums/fzr250-com-archives.137/
I went through about 600 thread's back to 2005 and couldn't see it, ill just try a few different length dogbones
Funniest thing I found was a post from me saying I was going to do the shock mod ... dated 2013 ... oh well I got the R6R shock sitting on the bench at least .... if only 2 weeks ago ... https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/suspension.7126/#post-72942 https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/my-fzr250-3ln-project.1792/#post-14642
Yeah I tried to retrieve page contents from the link from archive.org - it's not working at this moment
I'll go buy some more stainless tomorrow so i can make a set of 132mm dog bone's My neighbour is going to love me cutting and grinding 2 day's in a row
I'm interested to know if the 3LN1 dog bone's are a different length to the 3LN3 onward's, seeing as they have different part numbers Mine are 140mm centre to centre
Yeah they are the same as what was on my 3LN3, same number stamped onto it as well I wonder why 3LN1 have a different part number ?
Maybe you could make some temporary adjustable items to get your length right before making the stainless versions. Threaded rod with some large washers welded onto nuts type of thing. Or measure on the bike with the wheel held in the right place.
That be the right way to do it, and i do have a pair of home made adjustable dog bone's that i welded together year's ago for that purpose, made them out of a couple of Ford deep 1/2 wheel nut's, a disc brake stud and a couple of thick washer's but i'ts buried at the back of my shed and too hard to get out atm This morning i couldn't find my 12mm reduced shank drill bit, so i had to modify one to use in my cordless drill (my drill press is also buried at the back of my shed atm) Just need to round off the end's and tidy the new dog bone's up now.
