Hey guys, I bought my 1999 Kawasaki ZR250 with a rusty fuel tank, in order to get around this issue, i bought another fuel tank from a bike that was being parted out, only for it to be rusty on the inside again. Any idea where I can find yet another fuel tank for this bike? If its easier to get a tank from another bike, any idea what tank from which bike would fit it? Thanks
The Por15 stuff is like a hard rubberised coating once it's cured Is your current tank leaking ? You can clean rust out of the tank if it's not too bad, vinegar and some fine dolomite work's well. Leave the vinegar in overnite then put some dolomite in and shake it till the rust goes away, flush it a few time's and your done
How rusty is rusty? If its not thin ,battery acid and some bolts seal and shake ! Or buy tank sealer kit and FOLLOW instructions works well. Or try Find a part .com. au cheers
I use the KBS kits with good results, but you must follow the instruction to the letter. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322260134114?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Hahah i tried the vinegar, bought 15L of the stuff but it only seemed to make it worse Ill get some tank sealant from Autobarn tomorrow and see how it goes! Shame it isn't cheaper though
I sent a request to find-a-part, I see that youre rocking a ZR250 too! You wouldnt happen to have a spare fuel tank lying around that i could buy off you?
Wreckers will charge a fortune for a fuel tank and chances are 90% of them will be rusty inside anyway .... pick the best one of what u have .... get it dry inside and fill it with a few handfuls of fishing sinkers , nuts and bolts , road gravel or wateva and seal the outlets (after the fuel outlet/tap and cap assembly have been removed before u start) Shake it around till your arms fall off .... that will knock off the main rust ....empty it ... clean it out with hot soapy water , then water (the hose)... let it dry .... surface rust will form but thats part of the sealer process to change that http://www.por15.com/POR-15-Fuel-Tank-Repair-Kit_p_62.html
