well, I was browsing Gumtree last week and spotted an ad with no photos for a Honda CBR900 - 1994 model for $1500 with 67000kms on the clock , I contacted the buyer and asked for some pics, what I got was some pics of a genuine tigerblade , super stoked. The problem was the bike was in Gladstone which is 525kms away from Brisbane. I called a few transport companies to see how much it would cost to ship to Brisbane and I received quotes of $500 - $600 which was a bit too rich for me. I asked the seller if he knew anyone heading down and again the answer was no. I called him and asked what he could do on price and he dropped it a bit so I bit the bullet and bought it based on the pics he sent me. I did call @miketp as he has one and asked him if was worth grabbing, he said for the money it was a bargain. I did a PPSR check on the frame number and was pleased to see it was not written off or encumbered.

I had planned on obtaining a permit to move and unregistered vehicle and figured I could fly to Gladstone Friday arvo, pay for the bike when ride home. I pitched the idea to my wife and she said that there is a big rain depression heading our way and she asked if I really wanted to ride all that way in the rain. Phil even offered to catch the train up and ride it back, but I was concerned that it might not be 100% roadworthy. In the end it was easier to drive up and trailer it back.

I had already booked a half day of leave on Friday so I could watch my son play Rugby union , I figured the game would be done by 3pm, then I could race home hook up the trailer and head to the Sunny Coast to pick Phil up. Alas the Brisbane traffic was bloody ordinary and it took me an hour to drive 14 kms whilst trying to get out of Brisbane, at any rate traffic cleared up and I picked Phil up 5:30. We had a decent run and stopped at Childers for a bite to eat, then continued on , we finally pulled into Gladstone at 11:30pm and found that Maccas was open and had a coffee. I hadn't booked accommodation as I figured we would stop outside of Gladstone and sleep in the car, but 2 mins away from Maccas was a Oaks apartments that had 24 hour check in.

After a good nights sleep, we headed out and grabbed a coffee, then it was off to see the bike. From a distance it was a pearler, but closer up there was definitely some sins, but for $1200 I wasn't going to complain. The seller did say he had recently ridden the bike to Mackay and back and got caught by the cops because the bike was unregistered so my test ride was a quick blat up the street and back, I didn't want to risk it. It has a nice sounding laser pipe and there are DynoJet stickers so I can only assume she has been re-jetted. Money changed hands, a receipt issued and the bike was loaded on the trailer , the seller was bit down on his luck and asked if we could give him a ride to Brisbane which was fine by me.

We all set off about 8:30am, I dropped Phil back to the Sunny Coast and the seller near a train station in Brisbane as he was going to the other side of Brisbane. When I got home, I noted that 2 of my ratchet straps broke during the drive back , luckily the bike stayed upright so its all good.

Upon closer inspection, there are some sins that need to be fixed, but they are very minor.

    • The rear tail tidy has been cut so I would like to replace that, I do have a bid on one in Japan.
    • The seat has been recovered, I would like the genuine rubber one, I can get a NOS one from partszilla for $110 USD
    • All 4 indicators are not OEM and I would like to swap them out.
    • The Windscreen has been painted black so I am looking for an OEM one.
    • The bear ends are a tad beat up, I found them for $12 USD, and have ordered them
    • The rider foot pegs have no tread, I found them on partszilla for $20 each side, they too are winging their way here.
    • Brake lever is bent, will get a new pair from @Xcitebikes
    • I tore one of the grips with my straps getting it home, again will get some from xcite
    • There is a minor fuel leak from the drain screw on carb number 4, should be an easy fix.
    • the tank has some imperfections, I will most likely get Bob to fix them and paint it.
    • And finally, a full service, oil, filters, plugs, and air filter.

I remember being a skinny 20 year and seeing a CBR900 at my Honda dealer and immediately fell in love with it, I kow Mick Doohan used to get around on one when off the track. Its been on my rader for ages, but most of them are high mileage and still want big $$$ for them

Will I keep it ? not sure but I hope I can as because its cool as **** and I finally have one :thumb_ups:.

    I have a 1994 CBR250RR
    I have a 1994 CBR400RR
    I have a 1994 CBR900RR

Time to start looking for a 1994 CBR600RR

Everyone should take a leaf from your book mate, this right here is dedication to a passion... I am getting there even though people do not understand how I can love motorbikes so much to the point of dedicating my life to them.

Its time for a service, 4 new plugs, oil filter and 4l of 10w 40 oil.

Plugs were a pain due to their location, I had to drop the radiator to get easy access. Next job was draining the oil, the stuff in there was well past its used by date, filter also done. I then thought why pull the carbs down and give them a decent clean... and that's when the fun started. The air cleaner came off and the filter is well and truly shot, BK performance have one for $44 so I will swing by tomorrow. The carbs were a tad hard to get off as the insulators were rock hard, but some rocking back and forth and the finally came off.

First thing I noticed was some red tape on a hose, he has used that to make the pipe bigger so his clamp will work. I will need to address that.

    cbr900 008.JPG

Pulled the bowls off and guess what, they were full of junk, the brasswork looked black... here we go again.

    cbr900 009.JPG
    cbr900 012.JPG

As I disassembled the last carb, I noticed some damage to the carb body, hopefully its not too bad

    cbr900 001.JPG

The jets and tubes are soaking in threebond, Im off for a steak, will be back in a few hours to see how well the brass work has come up.

Carbs are clean and she fired up pretty easily, what I hearing are some pops and crackles out of the exhaust and between 3000 and 6000 which I assuming is an air leak, I am also hearing some cam chain rattle, I have been talking to a guy who had the same issue, he replaced the cam chain , CC tensioner and it didn't make a difference, turns out he didn't have any exhaust gaskets installed which turned out to be the problem. I will pick some gaskets up this week and see if that fixes it.

Ive got a 94 Blade. Picked up from Melbourne for scraps and shipped to Newcastle for around $300. Sometimes getting some quotes and some competition goes along way to bring the price down. Rode her for 6 months then stripped down completely to do a streetfighter build. Have fitted a VFR single sided swingarm and R1 front end. Thinking about getting another to do a restoration. I love mine. I do have a few standard parts I threw up on ebay like the windscreen you are looking for. Let me know if youre still chasing!

Parts are slowly arriving which is cool, so far the bar ends, bar end bolts, throttle cables, clutch cable, air cleaner, exhaust gaskets, foot peg rubbers are here, I decided to pull the headers off tonight and see if there was any gaskets fitted, indeed there were 4, but number 4 wasn't seated properly. I will give the headers a high tempt paint job tomorrow then reassemble with new exhaust gaskets.

Hopefully that fixes the noise, if anyone knows of a spare set of carbs for a 900, then please let me know, the carbs are marked as Keihin VP80B.

headers are done and look heaps better , I gave them a good clean, then a rough sand before using some hi temp paint.

the good news is that the noises from the cam chain have gone, the bad news is that's running quite rich and I am loathed to play with the air fuel mix screws as the broken one is glued in. I have wanted ad on gumtree, lets see what I can find.

Nice one kiffsta :thumb_ups: I was going to suggest tuning the other 3 carbs and leaving the dodgy one alone, but an unmangled set is even better.

Carbies arrived today from Perth, that's super quick delivery, the t piece for the fuel inlet was busted, but I have a spare so I wasn't too fussed . I thought it best to pull them down and see what mess was inside, what I found was an incredibly clean set of carbs , every jet was clean and the emulsion tubes were all clear, no tears in the diaphragms , it was awesome.

    cbr900_carbies 004.JPG

I went to fit them to the bike and came across my first issue, the carb boots were as hard as rock, It took some massaging but I got them off the bike and re-used the set of my original pair of carbs. With the carbs on, I fitted the airbox and my new air filter, tank was next then I fired it up. Cold start with full choke and she roared into life, a quick idle adjustment and this is what I now have.

    cbr900_carbies 002.JPG

the note of the bike has changed and it sounds really tight, I couldn't be happier unless someone popped over with $500 for rego :)

I just need a few more parts to arrive from overseas and I can ride it.

Might be a little rich, seems like the needle is dropping back too quick??? Doesn't sound like it "wants" to rev up. Hard to explain, could be wrong.
