Hi! I present you here my new GB250. I live in Hong Kong and old bikes are not common here, I'm really glad I could find this one. Small engines like 250 or 400cc are popular here, it's enough to drive in such a city. It's from 1987, has been imported in 2002, and I'm the second owner only! The previous owner kept it in his garage for many years and seldom used it. However, apparently he bring it to the work shop once a year for small maintenance and he replaced a few stuff on it (the tires and the battery are new). For now I don't have a garage and I use it everyday so I'll not renovate it. I have a few questions: - When I turn on the lights the 2 fronts parking lights are powered one as well and the previous owner tells me it's something original. Do you think that's normal? - I had a VTR250 before and I find that this bike vibrates a lot, sometimes it becomes difficult to see anything in the mirror. I know it's a mono-cylinder but I'm not sure if it's normal, could it be related to the old silent blocks that needs to be replaced? - I'm planning to overhaul the front fork. Do you guys have a guide or a method which explain how to do that? -The bike is rusty and I couldn't remove all the corrosion using the maintenance product. Do you know any good product to prevent the corrosion from growing? I may renovate the chromes later but for now I just want to stop it. -The battery had some leakage and because the tool box is located under it, the tools got really rusty. I can remove the corrosion but is there any way to protect it later? Thanks in advance!! Billygoat
I use this https://crcindustries.com.au/products/soft-seal-3013.html which is like Valvoline's Tectyl in a spray can.
Thank you maelstrom! To illustrate the vibration issue I made a video: It seems the old rubbers are really soft and let the motor shake a lot, any opinion? Billy
Hi! Today I tried to access one of the mount. I could remove a bracket and have a look at it. I'm not sur about it's condition, if these openings are normal or if it's broken. It seems quite corroded so I think I'll have to fully remove the engine and find a way to take it out (I'm not sure how to do that). I could find most of the parts I needed on CMS but I still miss some mounts, they appears out of stock and discontinued on every website I visit. Do you guys now some adresses where I could try to find these discontinued references? Thanks! Billy
I agree with you, it looks not that bad and I'm a bit surprised. I now want to check if the vibrations could come from something else. The vibration are really bad between 3000 and 3500 rpm only, otherwise it's acceptable. The missing references are the following: https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-gb250-c...58/mount-b-comp-eng_10210ke5003/#.YBGLnC8is1I https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-gb250-c...58/rubber-thrust-mt_50201ke5000/#.YBGLni8isWo https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cbx250r...0/rubber-c-mounting_50212ke5000/#.YBGLuC8isWo
Hi Murdo, thanks for your interest, you may be right, because the vibration also appears when I'm in neutral. I did't check these 2 things. For the flywheel, you're talking about the part circled in red right? About the balance chain I don't know how to do. It's the item 11 right (on the link). How can I access it? https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-gb250-c...0_model50658/partslist/0061.html#.YBLHrC8is1I Billy
Item 11 is the camshaft chain, balance chain will be in gearbox case. The red circled bit is the clutch centre. Flywheel is on the left side of crankshaft. Why not get a manual? There are two sections on CBX250 in the resorces section that I think use the same engine as the GB.
