Has anyone any experience with drive-chain sprocket ratios other than the standard sizes on an Across. I think the standard is 14-49.

I put a new chain and sprockets on mine about 4000km ago and I'm wondering if that's a little too late to put a smaller sprocket on the rear.

If it's not too far into the life of this sprocket I'd change it because, well, I want it to go faster. Would a tooth or two less make the bike too unresponsive? Would the speed increase be negligible or beneficial?

    Cheers :)

Yeah the rear is defo 49, the front is 13 stock. I was thinking of going bigger on the rear to get a bit more poke out of it around town but its already annoying on the freeway at 9200rpm or so.

Changing the ratio wont get you a higher speed, cause it doesn't even have the power to pull through to redline in 6th gear with the standard gearing. TBH i think you might actually get a higher top speed by going bigger on the back!

Fastest i've known it to go is 196kmh on the gps and that was in 5th gear down the straight. click it into 6th and itll just hold whatever speed it was doing, no acceleration. Though the engine in this particular example has over 80,000k on it. maybe a younger one would be different with a longer straightaway :)

Or just get a better track bike haha. (cause your not doing those speeds on the street right  :police: :-X)

Yeah I'd not thought of that Desmo. 6th is definitely an overdrive.

    I took a 98 model ZX-6R for a squirt the other day - I'll hold out...
