How can you tell if the slide holders in the carbs are worn?I just stripped and cleaned the carbs and noticed the slide holders have a fair amount of slop where they attach to the diaphram but as I have no idea what is acceptable movement can some one enlighten me.The bike runs fine but does not rev out as cleanly as my friends bike or have as much top end power. He says his where replaced last service and the 10k-16k rev range was much improved.
I noticed the slide on the right carb was a little tighter than the left when moving it up and down?

As far as i know the white needle holder bit sometimes sinks deeper into the black plastic casing with that being the common reason people replace them. They don't really ware as such.
They are a very cheap part and are very easy to replace. I replaced them on my across for piece of mind so if your in doubt just replace them.

if the slide holders have slop then I would look to replace them, this is a common Across fault where the holder will drop the slide and your carb wont work properly. From memory they are quite cheap, I checked the manual and there is no definitive measurements with the slide for wear, I have some spare carbs at home, do you want to measure yours and post the results, I will check mine and do the same.

As for revving out cleanly, this could be a number of things such as carbs not being balanced, air box not being correctly mounted to the carbs or a failed seal, but is generally that your air fuel mixture is incorrectly set, the manual says 1.5 turns out. performance can be effected if its out by more than 1/8 of a turn.

Slide holders can be sourced through your local Suzuki dealer, I bought my last set from Mick Hone a few years back

From memory they are just over 20 bucks....cheap fix really :thumb_ups: As stated by others it's a common problem with the Across.

Thanks.Just checked mick hone and they are only $5 each so will replace them anyway.Bike had not been run for 3 years so may need another look at the carbs. The jets were all completely blocked and the needles were stuck in the emulsion tubes so just cleaned that up and blew out all the air ways.
Have not checked valves yet either.Still really impressed with this little bike feels like I am going like a bat out of hell until I look at the speedo !
