The clutch is working, rode the bike up the hill at the back of us, all ok except for some clattering noise when I pull the clutch in. Will investigate tomorrow, many thanks Chris for the fairings etc the clutch lever is now in its rightful place. Will keep you all posted on the next step
Found the exhaust pipes were nackered but was able to buy a decent set nearby, repainted the forks and front wheel and refited the front mudguard, expecting the new oil filter tomorrow then I will be able to fit the exhaust pipes, great progress. Will post photo's tomorrow
Starting to look like an Across, still have a long way to go but we are seeing progress, the bike sound great with the new exhausts still have a problem with the clutch. getting the new pipes installed was a challenge.
I have fixed the wiring with another harness so all electrics are working, but the next problem is the clutch. with the motor running when I pull the clutch in there is a loud scraping noise, sound like the plates are loose and ratterling, when I put it in gear and release the clutch the noise dissappears. Any ideas on what is happening???
I just listened to the clutch again and the noise is coming from the push rod side not the plates. I will take it apart again tomorrow and see what I can find.
I found a bearing in the arm that pushs the rod into the plates had fallen apart, put it back together and refilled with grease, put it all back together started the motor, pulled in the clutch lever, and the noise is still there.
Hmm , not sure , is everything there ? Is it over adjusted on the cable guide that feeds the worm gear ? Do you have 2mm of freeplay in the lever ?
Is everything there? Looking at the drawings I would say yes. There is over 2mm on the free play maybe more like 10mm. The noise is coming from both side of the crank box .
Adjust the clutch so there is 2mm of freeplay , extra slack can be taken up on the adjuster on the sprocket cover
I tightened both ends of the clutch cable and there is some improvement, the noise only lasts for a few seconds then its ok. As the clutch lever was the wrong type in the first place and I got the correct one off Chris I'm thinking maybe the clutch cable is also the wrong type for this bike.
Clutch problem resolved, I opened the clutch box and found where the noise was coming from and adjusted the components, now putting the bike back together I will post final photos when finished
Bike all put together, just have to do a test ride to make sure ever thing works as it should, then RW and Rego
i don't see you as a bike wrecker more a bike restorer, you take bikes apart to restore other bikes, thats got to be good.
