    Can someone please help me.
I can't seem to get power to the rear solenoid. The solenoid works.
I've checked the workshop manual and it says there is a timer somewere.
Does any one know where it is and maybe have a pic.
I know I could re run the cable but prefer to try and fix 1st.

    Thanx

All good guys. Pealed of all the tape and followed the cables. It starts of with the ignition switch. Changes colour to the push switch. Then all the way to the rear of the bike and joins to the solenoid and t, s to a relay right near the solenoid. I found 2 faults. 1 the earth was disconnected and the 2nd is that there is no power from the ignition switch. Easy fix.

Good to hear ! .... most electrical faults on older bikes come down to broken or damaged wiring shorting out or dirty/dodgy connections or none at all! .....thanx to POs usually :help:

when i bought my across the guy said the petrol flap dont work. so you have to take the seat off to fuel up.when i got home i looked at the downloaded manual and found that the key has to be in a certain position. lol that was the problem.

    Hey Mrsupraboy
Know what you mean about broken or missing wires. Had one few years back that had some major electrical issues.
Like you started peeling back the tape to find someone at some stage needed a length of wire and simply cut some out.
Absolute idiots, I got lucky for only 2 bits were missing. Connected a wire and PRESTO, lights came on. Easy fix.

For the last year, that god damned solenoid has given me grief. It only ever worked once. I replaced the solenoid and timer with brand new ones ($320 later ), and completely rewired almost the whole thing (a further $30). Nothing. So I just opened the latch manually, as the only gathered that I used wire that was too thick (I went the next size up), or that the fault was in the few places I didn't rewire (earth, ignition to battery, or the button). I looked, I googled, I read, I researched...still nothing. I was stumped. Not even the bought workshop manual (another $80) was no help.

Then I saw your comment and had one of those "Oh, get ******! I'm gonna scream if that's the problem all alAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" moments.

Andrew, I could bloody well kiss you right now, but at the same time, I hate you because you highlight just how just how moronically long-lived my moment of stupidity lasted!!! Why? Because of all the research and work I did, I foolishly looked over the one resource that held the answer originally...the OWNERS manual. *facepalm*

Thank you a million times over!!!

I was reading the wrong manual.

Shoot me through some details man, if it's good, I'd be more than happy to take it.
