    G'day friends,
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for a substitute for the rubber boots that go between the air cleaner and carburettors on a YDS3 ? They're gettable from the US but with the low Aussie $ and postage, the bill comes to AUS$ 165.00 .. that's pretty expensive for two pieces of rubber tube.Has anyone used anything else .. radiator hose maybe ?
Also ... The air cleaner itself is intact, but the paper element has perished.I'm thinking about scraping off all the old paper and getting some fuel proof foam .oil it and wrap it around the air cleaner..This would work wouldn't it ?
    Cheers for now ... Charlie.

    Good man Murdo,thanks ..
I've bitten the bullet and bought the correct boots.. I found a place that sells them for a mere $100.00 including postage ;-) .I was able to source the filter foam from the local bike shop ,so all's going well for the air intake part of the restoration. Thanks for your help.. here's a pic of the 'empty' air cleaner .

The filter foam should wrap around that nicely :thumb_ups:

You may find that pod-type filters (K&N, Unifilter etc.) could be accommodated inside the air box. K&N filter elements are also available in other moulded shapes and sizes for OEM and aftermarket applications - there may be one which would suit your existing set-up. Something like this could probably be adapted: [IMG]

As you may already appreciate, any changes from OEM specification in the air intake system could require carb jetting alterations.

    Regards,
    James
