So, after many many months of being stripped and painted, I finally finished the job and put my zxr back together.

The bike was recovered from theft over a year ago. The thieves had done a great job of scratching/damaging seven shades of **** out of the bike so I set about slowly repainting and repairing it. Uni life took over and the project was confined to shed but after spending a few hours here and there she's finally painted and ready to go back on the road, albeit carb tuning.

Yep, that's right. I cleaned the carbs prior to assembly, set everything to stock yet now the bike chucks an absolute hissy if given WOT. /sigh.

    So close, yet so far.

    Peace out fellas!

Vacuum lines must be correct on these as you probably know... but if it has been sitting, check the tank strainers and fuel filter for blockages

Yeah I know haha touchy little things hey. I had de-rusted the tank and pulled the petcock, it all seemed fine.

I'm toying with the idea of capping off the t-piece vacuum line that splits off to the vacuum part of the petcock and running the bike on pri.

Short of that I'm just gonna recheck everything for loose lines or pinched hoses etc

    Cheers :)

Cheers fellas. Painting has definitely taught me some patience. It was one bad thing after another. Paint stripped the tank, found about 5 different types of bog in it, huge pita to mold and fix. Then the tank sprang a leak and ruined the paint. Had to buy more paint etc same deal with fairings and cracks and this and that.

    It took forever!

Yeah good pick up, the license plate is indeed crooked!

I used acrylic lacquer, probably the worst kind of paint to use on a bike but it was cheap(er), easy to spray in my dusty shed, easy to fix and pretty straight forward to colour sand + buff.

I knew the drawbacks but still went with it just to cut my teeth with spray painting, won't be the last time I spray a bike!

The bike was all ready for a test ride today; new (to me) coils and plugs and freshly and thoroughly cleaned carbies . Flicked the starter- hydrolock. Ruined my new oil and had me pretty damn annoyed.

I've attached a new non vacuum petcock but it's way too short and doesn't really work with the access hole in the tail section, it's also noticeably smaller. Better than nothing at this point.

I found lots of little black specks in the carbies, which I determined to be rubber from the fuel hoses, fouling my fresh carbs /sigh. Thinking of going filter less and letting the petcock filter and carb strainer do their job.

Uni starts next week, need it going by then!

Lord almighty, I think I'm in the clear with a bike that doesn't bog! Even goes up the hill at uni that ALWAYS gave me trouble.

    What did I do you may ask? I don't know exactly what fixed it but here's what I did;

-New fuel tap (non vacuum, new vacuum hose between #1 and #4 carb boot)
-thoroughly cleaned carbies using copper stranded wire and circuit board resistor leads in every hole I could find, thoroughly cleaned pilot screws (my logic: soft wire = less intrusive)
    -fuel screw 2.5 turns out.
    -New (to me) ignition coils
    - New spark plugs and snipped leads
    -Fresh oil

Needless to say, I've been caning the bike and getting reacquainted, missed riding way too much!

Oh yeah it's a great feeling for sure! Just in time for uni and just generally feels great because that bogging has been giving me troubles forever! I'm actually not up all night in the shed cursing and losing sleep haha
