Since the bike was sorted and roadworthied, the YZF stickers that came on the bike were removed and replaced with FZR stickers more correct to the period and the bike was hand washed and polished with a few scratches buffed out also by hand.

The plastics are cracked and welded a few times and the fairing is not the best but it will do until The kid has a few more hours riding under his belt when i will find him a new set.

Im a tad over 100kg and this thing hauls well even with my bum in the seat and apart from the oil level red light that Pops up sometimes its been pretty good.

James who actually owns the bike has put nearly 1000 km on the bike in the past few weeks partly under supervision with me tailing him in the Volvo to keep traffic off his 6 but a few weeks ago I took him for a drive down a very nice bit of road the runs from Mirboo North, Hallston and ends up on the Straz Hwy just out of leongatha, Grandridge road has little traffic and all sorts of fun bits from wide quality road sweepers to series S bends and some long long straights and basically told him to go clock up a few miles.

Realising the training wheels were off and being a good obedient kid he did just that and in one day clocked up nearly 400 km driving the nearly 40 km each way over and over.

He had a few brown undies moments with tractors and milk tankers but i felt the boy was good to go get some miles up and that he has at every available moment in rain, hail or shine.

And today........ He dropped it.
No biggie, all unhurt apart from pride but he has buggered the lower fairing on the left and scuffed up the same on the right.

And it all happened when he honked into the driveway too quick and ran out of talent when he got unbalanced because he was worried about the traffic behind him.

100 Mile an hour tape will hold it with a few cable ties for now but we are now looking for a fairing kit..

2 found on eBay and one is not the best looking and yet the more expensive of the 2, the Bike is Pre EXUP so the decals on it are wrong but for the money it doesnt look too bad and im tempted to buy a set for the hell of it and get it professionally painted and graphic'd.

A few pics of the damage.

Bit of a shame about the damage. Particularly after all the work you have done.

Here in Tassie have to do a training course to get the "L" plates and another course to get the Provisional. There is a fair amount of practical involved in the learners.
I only got my licence because the youngest son bought a GPX-250 to go to work at 16 y.o. Took it for a ride around the block and thought this is ok.
As an old learner I did a lot of slow riding (on the FZR) in big carparks. It is the slow stuff that is hardest to learn.

That was nearly 10 years ago. Did have a learners about 40 years ago and rode a few other people's bikes, lost interest and never got a full licence or rode a bike again.

Hope you get it all sorted again.

Thanks Dave, Im pretty much the same when it came to a bike license and had my learners 3 or 4 times over the years but never followed it through although I did commute on a bike for a while it never stuck.

As for the slow stuff I set up a figure 8 track here for the boy and he learned balance and control at slow speeds on the track and then i took him on the roads following in a car to keep traffic off his rear end.

Then I showed him a nice quiet road good for touring and he did laps on that after which I set him loose.

Anyway UPDATE!

After some emails back and forth with Michelle from Neverland to get a custom set painted a similar colour and with no Decals I bit the bullet and spent James money on this set.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/390698240658

They stressed that the colour was going to be taken from photos Id sent which means it wont be the same and for no added cost id expect some variation in the colour but they are sending a pic before shipping to make sure the colour is close.

Pics when it arrives!

Seems to be more and more parts becoming available for the FZRs from china.
Interested to see what turns up...
