Hey guys, this is my first post here! Extremely useful site!
I recently picked up a '91 model 3ln3 for $350! Needs some fairings on it and the tank is a bit dented. It's been sitting for 2 years and today I've been trying to get it going. After chasing all the wiring and working out what was plugged in wrong and where, we ended up at the Master Relay box, with a nice hole melted it in. Got the circuit out and it was burnt to buggery.

Things I'm chasing -
- Master Relay
- Tail Light Assembly
- Front Brake setup including Callipers and master cylinder
- Fuel Tank
- all fairings/plastics including Tail, cowels, headlight fairing, everything! (Thinking about one of those eBay specials, thoughts?)

I think that's it for now. The list may change as I'm going for a road trip to some wreckers soon.

Cheers!
Josef

I'm in Lismore NSW 2480. The bike currently doesn't have any good fairings. Some were cracked, the headlight surround has a crack etc. Some was missing when I bought it. I've since found the relay, just waiting for it to be posted to me, and tail light assembly and brakes.
Still needing a tank - don't mind colour, etc, just nice condition would be good, mirrors, blinkers, ignition barrel (Owner lost key and just jammed another one in until it worked), clip ons, couple of little things that would be good to have as spares.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks guys!

Do u have the parts list?

http://www.yamaha-motor.com.mx/Manual_Partes/Catalogos/Deportivas/FZR250/3LN6_1993.pdf

Look on ebay.com (not just oz ebay) and with the part number u can find things which are common to other Yamaha machinery and FZR400s etc
Theres a zillion aftermarket blinkers on ebay and with the strong aussie dollar buying anything OS can be a better prospect.
Depends on how "original" u want to keep it.

All my plastics are damaged in some way even having 2 bikes to pick from.
If u only have cracks have u considered plastic welding?
Im going to consider repairs on mine and compare the cost to getting a "new" set.......

If you saw mine (what's actually remaining) you'd realise there is no return. Plus bits are missing, bits have snapped off and they are all different colours. I'm looking at getting one of those fairing kits off eBay. I've heard both good and bad reviews for them but I'd rather not spend a lot of money on original ones straight away.
The only thing I'm having trouble with is a tank, there are no wreckers around where I am, the ones in reasonable driving distance want more than what I paid for the bike and other wreckers keep giving me different prices every time I ring and talk to a different person.
But hopefully when I get this relay (should be here tomorrow fingers crossed) I should be able to get the bike started and then I'll work out weather it's worth spending the money on it or buy a running/rego'd one and use this for spares.

Yea would be best to see if it runs ok first.
I got a "spares" bike with the "running" bike.....which has been handy and theres already been a few items that were in way better condition on the spare than the running/registered bike.

Heres links to my threads on the other FZR forum with plenty of pix.

Well fingers crossed I'll know if it's a runner or not by the end of the week depending on weather I get this package or not. Everything sounds good except it's not getting any spark because that main relay that controlls all the isolators like stand switch and clutch switch was fried to buggery. Has anyone else had or heard of this problem?

I presume youre referring to the CDI box (Capacitor Discharge Ignition > unit that controls the ignition firing) ....the big black box
And yes I have read (some)where where it can cook itself.

Have u checked the grounds and the regulator/rectifier?
You dont want to put in the "new" one and the same thing happen.

No it's the one next the the exup servo unit and the blinker relay at the back on the left side. has about 8 to 10 wires plugged into it. It then goes to the blackbox under the seat. The regulator has good earth, I cleaned and tightened it to make sure.
