    just a quick question - whats all of your opinions on fuel system and engine cleaner additives? do they do the trick or are they just a sales gimmick?

    After working in the automotive field for a long time I can say that yes they do work and I will never use an engine oil flush and do not advise anyone else to, they do more bad then good (blocked journals, pickups etc).

    i have heard that they do work but they can create oil leaks where build up of deposits are cleared away from where they were clogging up a hole from an old seal or something. but couldnt you counteract it by adding "no more leaks" to the fresh oil?

    But in doing so you are moving the carbon deposits around the engine, only time I would ever use oil flush is if I got a brand new car (or next to no k's) and used it on every oil change.

    Best thing to do is service it more often to clean it up, not sure how it would go in a bike but Castrol RX Super works well (Diesel oil) as it has more detergents.

    How many k's are on it?

    That was my next question is what oil to use? It's got 50,000km it supposedly had an oil change approx 1000km ago *ive only put 600 on it* but considering when this backyard mechanic changed the sprockets and chain he didn't tighten the nut to hold the front sprocket on so leaving me stranded on the side of the road and a $120 tow the day after I got it. I do t trust the oil or anything he has done or said he has done more like it. The whole bike is rough but that's what weekends and days off are for. I just don't want the engine going on me before I start proper work on the beast.

    Don@t know if you can get it there but if so try Dipetane.

    Cleans up the inside of the engine by burning of the carbon, no detergents, just pure hydrocarbons. Unbeliveable stuff, increases fuel economy etc.

    i use it in all my vehicles and have never had any problems with it.

    A lot of people in ireland swear by it, including the defence forces <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

    Just thought I would add to this as I have seen a few products used now that work well which are detergent based and not solvent based so they work to dissolve the oil deposits instead of washing them away.
