Will need to rebuild my clutch soon (it's slipping when motor is coldish, goes away when fully warmed up ... but I don't want to wait when it will be doing it all the time, especially during a few track days I have coming up). I will do both friction and fiber plates and I want to do the springs as well (regardless whether I find their length to be Ok). I have no problem sourcing the OEM plates, but the springs seem to be a different matter ... 90501-237F6 doesn't come up on boat.net, but 90501-227E0 does. Which is for FZR400. Does anyone know whether they would be OK to use. I noticed in the FZR400 manual that their wear limit length is 29.0mm instead of 28.0mm for the FZR250 .... Thanks for your 0.02$
Just make sure it is not a problem with the adjustment (either the cable or the adjuster in the clutch centre), or an oil problem. I remember mine doing it on gearchanges when pushing hard. I put a washer on each spring bolt to put a bit more tension on the springs.
Well, it cannot be the oil (haven't changed brand and it's quite a fresh pour). Cannot be the cable either since my clutch is just the way it should be and I have no other problem with gear engagements. Without really going in and taking some measurements, I won't know. The plates will be here soon. I haven't bought springs yet. I figured I could increase preload on them with a washer if need be (even though it doesn't really change the lost tension). I suspect the plates to be really close to a toast. Will see.
Well give something like Penrite HPR-10 Gas a go and see how it is, just funny how it slips when cold but not hot which indicates to me the oil properties.
Check your steels for warping, or for glazing - a scrub with some Scotch-Brite pads may offer some improvement. The friction plates may benefit from a quick deglaze with oiled emery cloth on a suitable piece of plate glass.
Thanks guys. The new set of clutch an friction plates will be here in a couple of days. So I will replace them either way. Depending what thickness figures I will measure out I will try to recondition the old ones to act as a spare in the pinch. If they are well below a service limit I will toss them .... Back to my original question though ....... so nobody has tried to use FZR400 springs right?
