    ok, so i got my zx7r now so i dont use the fizzer...
    so me and my friend have been talking about making my 250 into an electric bike.
    the fzr would be good because its a good size frame to work in, its light, and its good looking enough to be worth doing!

    i can get hold of a 35hp electric motor for free i think. and electric motors put out power in a totally different way, so 35hp motor can put out about 100hp for a short time,
    eg accelerating..
    the good size of the frame and style mean we can fit enough batterys in.
    the wheels and frame are also strong enough to put up with the extra power too.
    whilst we are at it i think i'll try and put on a cbr400 gullarm or a vtr single sided swingarm, and put on some usd forks. and i'll change the subframe and make a new fairing from scratch.

    if i get the project off the ground i'll make a blog and stuff.
    oh, me and my friend both have an electronic background so we should be able to do things properly. =]

    any ideas are welcome.

    Sounds interesting. What kind of motor to you have? How much does it weigh compared to the FZR engine?
    How long is your extension lead <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_roll.gif" alt=":roll:" title="Rolling LoL" /><!-- s:roll: --> But seriously what sort of battery and controller are you planning to use?

    I am rather intrigued..

    im not entirely sure yet....
    i have a few motors im gonna try..
    one is from a small lift and has collosal torque but isnt gonna put out much speed and weighs about 75kg.
    one is from an industrial lathe and has good torque and speed and weighs about 50kg.
    and the other idea i have is having 2, 3 or even 4 smaller motors linked which gives the possability of only useing what is needed, so switch off 3 for round town.

    as for power thats the big problem isnt it...
    i can fit good numbers of most of the normal battery setups that people use.
    but iv been looking into the idea of making a fuel cell.

    (another possability is a hybrid, a small generator could easily put out enough power for electric motor as a diesel generator is about 70% efficient and a standard combustion engine is about 40%)?

    Albeit sounding cool .... I am skeptical about such projects. The battery technology is simply not there when compared to gasoline. Not even close, so when you compare the weght and size of your stock engine and tank with an electric motor and pile of batteries you will find that the bike will be bigger, heavier and slower .... and will cost you an arm and a leg.

    I am not a electric power hater, just not seeing the benefit possible from a reasonable budget. If you are just considering doing it to prove it can be done, then sure go at it I will be interested to learn what can be done.

    Save yourself time and google up on what motor to use .... you cannot just grab any more (from a lift, lathe etc.). Motors are made for a specific purpose, demands of a lathe or lift are very different than a of a motorcycle.

    Example ... <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.evdrive.com/emoto_project/moto_project.html">http://www.evdrive.com/emoto_project/moto_project.html</a><!-- m -->

    im only going to do it because otherwise the frz is going to the scrap heap as i dont want it anymore, just seems a shame because apart from the exhaust and fairings it all works brilliantly.

    any ideas for what to make it into welcome.. =p
    how about a large cc two stroke?

    or... a... drinks... holder....

    So you don't want a running bike, so you're going to scrap it?!

    Sell it.

    Part it out.

    Give it to some spotty oik, to pass on the love of the sport.

    SCRAP it?! <!-- s:alcoholic: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_all_coholic.gif" alt=":alcoholic:" title="Alcoholic" /><!-- s:alcoholic: -->

    You are selling it too cheap. People will think it is buggered. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    Put a higher price on it and let people talk you down so they think its a bargain at £200
