Hey guys, I was at the race track on the weekend, trying to get my knee down on the Fizzer (3LN) 1991.
Problem was I seemed to grind the **** out of the footpeg before my knee got anywhere near down.
I'm on the edge of my tire melting the crap out of it, and i felt like there wasn't much more, however I'm not used to this bike at all.

Now its ONLY a track bike and not road registered, so I don't want that ******* bullshit argument with that ****** condoning getting your knee down on public roads all the time...

with that in mind, I'm also a big guy, i'm 100kg, (but i'm a bodybuilder so i'm lean, not a fat ass.) But I'm obviously not the only guy having that issue. Are you racers usings different rear sets or something? I dont have that issue on the 636. Weird.

It could be the weight of the rider not giving the suspension enough ride maybe?

I weigh ~70KG, and although i havnt knee downed yet, i havnt raped the footpeg neither.

I think Snowfox may have a point - you may be sacking down the rear. How is it handling - does it feel a little raked out? Have you tried adding some preload?

I believe most FZR racers do go for rearsets...

I am one of the people who snarls at yahoos trying to drag their knee on the street - glad to finally see someone doing it where it belongs!

Thats kinda interesting. I've just ramped up the suspension too. I moved the rear bolt and put some washers in the front suspension and went up to 15 wt oil, and I must say with Dunlop alpha 12's on it feels ******* planted... almost amazing. No surprises what so ever... I love it! Is it possible that i'm just getting the turn I need on the bike without the excessive lean I need on the 600 cause my weight pulls a bit more influence?? I'm not all that experienced honestly so I'm grateful for all advice.

I don't know really, I'm going to try and use a wire to show me a visual representation of where the footpeg is in relation to the tire's angle on the road... then again it was my first burn round on the fizzer, maybe i just need more seat time with it, but I'm surprised the footpegs touch way before my knee

I haven't been able to locate any new rearsets on ebay yet... maybe I should look at getting some fabricated?

No worries on the anti-yahoo policy bro, i'm starting paramedic training in september. (I got in yay!) And I'm sure then I'll be able to come back on and tell them first hand how foolish they are. I'd like to see them argue then... everyones a pro till they **** up... then they are just stupid and dead like every other "pro".

The 250's lighter weight should allow more speed through the turn for the same degree of hanging off. Also, the FZR is a 20-yr-old design; more modern bikes come with what are effectively 'rear sets'.

Have you actually measured your front and rear sag? Get a friend to help you measure the seat and fork height, first with you off and then on.

    Given the right conditions probably.

It also comes down to the maximum lean angle of both bikes and how flexible the rider is, try stretching and when you about to try and knee down, stick the toes outwards, but dont let them slide the floor, thatll hurt.

Ill bet since you havent mentioned body position, that you might be sitting on the bike more than really hanging off. It helps to consciously remain loose on the bars.
If you are using all your tire you probably should have knee downed.
My first track day I scraped knee (Gsxr600) and still had 4 or 5mm of tire at each side (dunlop Q2)
Watch the GP riders, put your body more or less in that position.

    have fun
