I'm just curious, whats everyones opinion of the LAMS laws coming in/current?
i know S.A, TAS and N.S.W has had them for quite a while and july this year QLD joined and the N.T a bit before that. i think its just W.A now that hasnt done it (unless VIC and ACT havnt).
i personally like the idea of being able to get a bigger, but power restricted bike while doing your L and Ps and the ruling out of those high powered 250 two strokers (or as the guy doing my motorbike course called them kiddy killers ) at least taller people wont look like there riding a shetland pony when on a 660 as opposed to a 250 and they may also like to keep the bike longer than they would a smaller bike, althought the added weight could be a problem for a learner to handle. it still seems good to me because the person who buys the bike should be able to use common sense and think as to whether they can handle the bike properly. opinions anyone?

When I did my learners we did not have LAMS, just a 250cc limit with no 250 2-strokes, hence the FZR was the pick. Now there are LAMS versions of the Suzuki SV650 and Hoysung 650's, the latter can be de-restricted down the track for a small fee. I believe a new ECU fixes the suzuki.

I used to morons in cars pull up beside me at the lights wanting me to do wheel stands with the FZR - as if

yeah i heard about people getting the hyosung comets and changing the carbs and to the stock/unrestricted ones, beefing up the horse power from around 35 to 79 and unless the cops do a thorough check/know what there looking for, they cant tell the difference and as for the wheelie on the 250 fizzer hahaha good luck

in england we have to have under 33 break until 2 years after we pass our full test but dont have to have Ls on.
theres talk that they are going to make it so you have to do another test after that too.. but that would be pushing it a bit i think as you already have to take 2 for a full licence, and at about £120 per test +3 hours minimum training at about £60 an hour.....
250s are makeing a comeback here because of the restricted licence law as you can get away with a 50bhp 250 and not get pulled over every 10 mins for looking like your on a bike your not ment to be.
(and i can pull a wheely on my 250.. it just took a bit of practice.)

haha that seems a bit overboard deadbirds, especially at that price. when you say 33 break i assume you mean 33bhp? and yeah wheelies are possible just require a bit more effort to get anywhere...

When I went to register my FZR the bloke behind the counter (after we had done the checkover+paperwork mind you) had gotten the printout of rego ready and goes "uh it's not on my list of lams approved bikes" I just look at him and said "mate, it's a 250... It's not on your list of lams rejected bikes! Just do the printout anyway"

Done the printout and it said it was lams approved Stupid VicRoads.

well while were on the subject of vicroads mishaps check this.

turned 18, went for my license, passed, received what i didnt recognize as a MOTORBIKE LICENSE. drove around for three months, was pulled over numerous times no problems. Go to vicroads to print out another licence and was asked to printout motorbike p's, or car l's. had no idea what he was on about. in the end the girl who organized my license got her ass kicked, if i had known what was going on i would have went with it.

haha.
my friend has just booked his full bike test (so he dosnt have a full licence yet)
and the other day he got pulled over and arrested by cops because apparantly he has 3 points on his licence and a speeding ticket of 132mph... he has a sachs xtc125. YES 125.. the cop also claimed that the photo on his licence didnt match up with the one on their database, and neither did the name. hahaha. the smartass cop wrote in the wrong details. my mate got £1200 for wrongful arrest. now he got himself a nice little cbr. win!

dont get me started on cops wrongfully alleging things.

dont know if you have heard of a ford xr6, but they come out in two versions, turbo, non turbo. they are essentially the same, however one is a low comp turbo engine, one is a high comp n/a. a friend and i got pulled over by two female cops and spent nearly an hour trying to convince them that it was not turbo, we had to wait untill backup arrived to confirm they were WRONG>

2 stokes ruled the world when i did my L's and P's. Couldnt afford an RGV so i got stuck with an RG250 instead.

I think my FZR will be getting a Banshee motor in that great big water cooled hole.

Will make it fit

Just got to get my hands on one first.

They make the RZ/RD motors fit in RG250's.
