Ok, there's two things you could be referring to when you say you get a 'jolting' feeling; ok three... but the third one involves electrocution.

I guess the easiest way to establish which one it is would be to ask if you know what a pulsing brake rotor feels like? If one (or both) of the discs is warped then you'll get an on-off-on-off sort of feeling as your braking. Given the front discs on the FZR are semi-floating they can't be machined to correct that so i'd suggest you start keeping an eye out for some new/2nd hand rotors. I picked up a bargain the other day on eBay and got both front rotors for my FZR1000 for $80 delivered!!!

The other thing it might be is if your headstem bearings are loose, but this would cause an entirely different feeling. If this were the case then when you get on the brakes you would feel a 'jolt' or a 'thunk' almost every time. The same noise/feeling would also happen if you were going over a large bump or rough section in the road. It's easy enough to fix as it just involves removing the top triple clamp and then retightening the top headstem bolt and it's locking nut. From memory they're only meant to be finger tight (~4nm) but there needs to be contact to stop the bearings moving away from their races.

Hope that helps.

Had the same problem on my bike, however i noticed that the part that is bolted to the wheel and holds the disc had a bend in it. Straightened this out and it came right. Might be worth having a look

Nah just lift the front wheel off the ground using a jack or something of the like. Spin the wheel and hold a pencil next to one of the discs. If the distance between the pencil and the disc changes then that is the disc that is causing the jolting, check both. When you have found the disc causing the jolting, check the holder for bends.
I didnt take the wheel off to straighten it just smacked the bend straight with a hammer.....prob not a good idea but it worked.
Taking it off to straighten would be safer i would presume.

another thing to try is to lube up yor brake cables ... spray a bit of spray lube down the guts of the cables ... it helped on mine when I had a notchy feeling front brake
