    hi
    I have a 81 xl250 i need to replace rear bearings.

There are 4 small holes in the side of the retainer, ive read i need to either drill or punch these holers and its a reverse thread?

Bearings are a servicable part so u would think its just unscrew the retainer, knock out the bearing etc etc.....

A drill and a wheel hub/bearing dont sound like a good combo to me.

Maybe a couple of pics to show the area/holes you are refering to?
